JB Weld? ? ?
Hey I am in a bind . . . and don't plan on having some show setup, or anything like that. I haven't perfected welding yet, and wanted to know if using a 5/8" Barb fitting JB Welded to my Oil pan would work with no leaks?

I have heard several success stories using JB weld for the following task. But i would recommend being safe and spending 20-30$ on having a local welding shop properly tig welding a return line/fitting onto your oil pan.

it will work if you do it right...you need to prep the surfaces really good..grind them down to bare metal and clean the **** out of them so theres no residue or oil on them at all...then put on the jb weld and make sure its covered good and let it dry for a good day.
i used jbweld on my fuel pump bracket on my previous supra when installing twin intank pumps and running additional wire out the top..i tried EVERYTHING to get it to seal and no matter what it would still leak fuel...tried jb weld and it fixed it
but with that said if it was my car, ide just get it welded...its not worth it to have to take that damn pan off again to get it welded if it leaks

Im gonna be on the side that says "it will work". However if it does start to leak or fall out..you could loose all your oil and run dry; which could cause damage to the motor and turbo. Personally for "peace of mind" id get it welded. Im sure a weld shop could do it for $20. Its gonna cost you 1/2 that in JB weld if you buy it from home depot.
Cant be too safe on important areas. Your engine and turbo are worth too much for something stupid like the JB weld to come loose!

If your actually talking about tapping the barb fitting onto the oil pan WITH JB weld, supposedly it should work.
But if your talking about one flat surface to another, its not gonna last long.
You gotta ask yourself, "is it really worth the risk"?
Just get the thing welded on! It shouldn't cost you that much at all.

even an oxy/acetalyne braze would be WAY safer than JB weld. Pretty much any garage is going to have a torch and you could even bring them the brazing rod that you bought for $.60. Do it right and save your engine.

damn it seems like 50% of everyone says it won't work, and 50% of people says that it will work . . . I already purchased the JB Weld yesterday, and i'm just anxious to get my car up and running. I am still a little confused do to the fact that it lies about even between yes's and no's

works perfect. drill and tap it...then jb weld inside and out.
just make sure you let it dry COMPLETELY. I put it next to a halogen lamp overnight.

I guess you guys could be right . . . for those who have never tried it they just may not know for a fact if it works or not unless they had friends that tried it. I was going to call around to ask people how much it would cost to get it welded. Also, is it true that you gota get um . . . new spark plugs 2 step colder or something like that? My setup is so close to being done . . . tapping the pan is the last major thing I gota do.

Re: (Sinner)
so i'm guessing that JB weld will work as long as you let it cure for the appropriet amount of time, and globe it on there good. Is it possible to weld a brass piece onto an Oil pan? Brass as in a Barb fitting . . .

JB weld holds SO Good....but you HAVE to prep both surfaces first, and have them clean, and make sure you don't use the 'kwik' weld.....it doesn't stand up to very much heat.
If you don't prep the surface, it will just peel off like a sticker.

Re: (Vtec92Civic)
JB weld is NOT the right way to do it. If you want to risk losing all your oil and then your engine a few seconds later go for it. I can't think of a dumber risk. Why not jb weld the wastegate shut while your at it?

Re: (Bailhatch)
well aprently they can't weld the barb fitting onto my oil pan, and everyone seems to be saying JB Weld works like a champ . . . I have personally had friends that have used it and said it works really well. Just trying to get other peoples point of views
