J&S vs. MSD 6BTM
I researched a little, and since I'm going to be running stock internals/compression on my R while boosting, I figured the investment of either one of these products would be worth while.
Just a few questions, I assume that the J&S is a bit better because it comes w/ a/f monitor, a map limiter ( so I don't need the missing link correct?), and still offers the MSD 6BTM ignition retard per lb of boost option.
Is there anything else I need to know, opinions, etc? What other features from these ignition systems should I be aware of?
Thanks, Ed.

Re: J&S vs. MSD 6BTM (yellow blur)
Also, the pricing between the two, I see that the MSD is a bit cheaper, but it also comes with a 2 bar map sensor so I don't need to run a missing link/check valve.
I think it comes out to be like 100 difference between the two units, retail pricing?
edit: One more thing, is there a difference in the msd units, I think i'm reading this wrong but does one offer a boost control function and another a rev limiter function or are they both offered in the same MSD 6BTM unit?
Who carries this unit? Thanks.

Man with the new chip Uberteg has out "UberChip", I don't know why you would spend the money on anything else unless you already have it purchased.

J&S is garbage IMO. Outdated dinosaur stuff. These things came out before so many true engine management options were available to us, and with the low cost of the UberChip, you have no excuse not to get one.
UberChip
Hondata
AEM EMS
Speedpro
Haltech
Autronics
etc
etc

Re: J&S vs. MSD 6BTM (yellow blur)
More than likely there never will be support for OBD2, from anybody because it's a pain in the ***.
Invest...
$150 (or less) in an OBD1 conversion harness
$150 (or less) in an OBD1 P28 ECU
$100 UberChip
$6.50 chipping pack
Already less than J&S (unless their price has dropped drastically in the last year or so).
Go for it!

Re: J&S vs. MSD 6BTM (Hatchblack)
J&S is still an awesome unit for people who tune on the street. Advance timing until the J&S starts picking up knock and then you roll it back ~2 degrees.
That's basically how I tuned my own car and it took me less than on hour on the dyno to get the a/f nailed after that.
There's no way you can do something like that "by ear", especially if you've got a loud exhaust.
For standalone systems, the J&S "Classic" is all you need. You can find them used with the little gauge and everything for $200-$250. I will never sell mine.

The classic version you mean is an addon for the EMS/Hondata/Haltech units right? If I needed a piggy back kind of thing I'd get the safeguard v2?

If you are not using a standalone, then the v2 is right for you. I also agree with what Sonny said. Btw, I believe Matt from Hondata is also using a J&S.
