its like christmas in may!!!!!!!!!!!!
so i have been wondering for a while why my car pulls so damn hard. it is a stock GSR motor on 10lbs, love fab manifold, .63t turbo, etc etc tuned on crome. nothing super special, but it trapped at 115 untuned on street tires (13.5 spinning). i have been driving it for a couple months now, and have alwasy tried to figure out why i have been walking (more then 4 car lenghts) on other turbo gsr's on as much as 11lbs (got it by 6 cars). well, we were topping my oil off, and my buddy lookes down into the oil fill hole thing in the valve cover, and notices i have crower retainers. hmmmmmm, so the next day we pop off my valve cover, and here is what we find:
what we think we identified:
titanium coower retainers
oversize valves
dual springs
97 ITR cams
input if we are wrong, and this is just a stock GSR head with retainers.
i called the kid i got it from to make sure, and he said he thought it was stock, so he is pretty pissed that i got this car for so cheap. now we are wondering about the bottom end........

Hate to be the one to say it... but the original owner probably bought the motor stolen from someone who had built it, and assumed it was stock all along.

no, it still has all the tags and everything on it, and its running very well, it will pull over 20lbs of vaccum, should i drop the oil pan to look at the bottom end?

We can't really tell from the pics....
you will have to take the valvetrain apart a little to find out what cams they are, i don't think you will be able to tell just by pulling the distributer.
pull the pan and take a look, also do a compression test, you could have high compression pistons and not know about it.

It happens!
I sold a b16a to someone that had spoon sports venturi intake gasket. he sold it to some allmotor guy on here who paid way too much for it haha. (who the hell buys used gaskets?)
I get pretty lucky when I buy motors.. I've got 2 LSD equipped motors in a row and didn't pay extra for them. (plus another LSD tranny that someone abandoned at my friends shop)
It's a good feeling when they lift your new motor up with a forklift and you can see right through the diff

Take off the valvecover and the dizzy you will be able to see the Key way for the intake cam and you can ID the cam by looking at the ribs on the Key Way. I put the link here so you can see what I am talking about. Go to the bottom of the page where it says b series cams there is pic of every cam so you can ID. Also it will be kind of hard for you to tell if there are after market pistons if you do not know what you are looking for so get some one with experience since it is pretty narrow down there. Good luck and good find.
