Default Internal BOV . . . ??????

ok, my friends dad has a sandrail with a built v-dub motor in it. it is turbocharged, and he claims to have a "mercedes t3" turbo. he also said it has an internal blowoff valve and wastegate. i understand the wastegate, but how the hell can it have an internal bov? i checked his setup and there is no bov present, but it makes the sound between shifts. can someone explain?

Maybe internal meaning the gases the bov releases goes back into the intake of the motor

I had a vlovo turbo with an internal bypass vlave. I took it apart and it was actually built quite well. Basicly it just dumps air from the outlet of the compressor back into the inlet about 3/4" in front of the compressor through a rectangle slot in the side. it wasn't a flapper, it's a nice steel and brass plunger like a greddy type S or 1g DSM.

it works just like any bypass valve just there is no piping between the compressor and the valve.

Is this similar to a compressor with a ported shroud?

kind of in that there are openings in the compressor inlet but thats about it. Ported shrouds have nothing to do with a bypass system unless you just mean the layout of the holes.
The one I had was about a 1/2" x 1 3/4" slot in the side of the compressor inlet. So if you were looking straight into it you coulden't see the hole. The ported shrouds can be seen easily from that angle.
