Default Intercooler Plumbing sizes/materials.

Putting together a setup with a precision 31x11x3.5" intercooler with 2.75" OD inlets, a t61/t3 etc etc...
would like to go with 2.5" intercooler plumbing, are there any major pro's or cons?
i understand that Bigger plumbing will induce a slight lag factor, but how much i have no idea.
basicly the choice is 2.25" or 2.5" ...
materials im trying ar 6061 aluminum which i have sourced for about 20-25 bucks per 90 degree/45 degree, and 30 for a 180 section for 2.5" and slightly cheaper for 2.25"

now i could go the cheap route with aluminized steel for 12 bucks a section...
any suggestions or comments welcome, and yes i searched this topic.
