Intercooler pipiing metal?

Re: Intercooler pipiing metal? (Flamenco-T)
What about rust though? My steel mandrel bends are starting to show their age. Even though they were painted the exposed pipes in the front by the fmic have chipped a little from wear and are starting to surface rust. The insides have showed some signs of surface rust as well, not really rust yet but dull and maybe little coroded. Even though aluminum may be more money and a pain to work with it seems like it should last forever. Any coatings that might help prevent rust?

aluminum is lightweight and cheaper than ... say SS.
Good anticorrosion properties
aluminum sheds heat better than SS and mild steel.
drawbacks... lil more difficult to weld... find a good TIG welder
make sure you buy an aluminum BOV flange
Im refering to 6061 aluminum.. there are other types that are more expensive = better able to withstand heat

right, AL dissipates or conducts heat better than stainless steel or mild steel (greater thermal conductivity)....
FWIW
304 ss u bend
2.5" OD 16 gauge =$46.56 retail from burns
6061 al u bend
2.5" OD = $42.11 retail from burns
