Intercooler Idea... Opinions?
I have a 97 Del Sol Si with the D16Y8 engine and I'm going to be getting a GReddy turbo kit for it. As many of you probably know, the kit does not come with an intercooler and its maximum psi would bring hp short of my target (220-230, pretty much as far as I can go without needing to heavily modify/replace my internals). An Intercooler kit runs for about $800-1000, and I don't really want to pay that much. I was wondering if it would be at all possible to successfully pull out an intercooler (most likely side-mount) from a Volvo, Volkswagen, or some other manufacturer that puts ic's on their cars stock. If I can actually get this to work, all that is left is getting a custom piping kit to bring it all together, and this should be manageable.
If anyone has any opinions on this such as if it will or will not work, or what kind of car I should try and get the ic from, it would be great.
Thanks guys. And if this is actually a really dumb idea, please don't flame me XD

Just pick up an ebay intercooler and piping kit and call it a done deal. You can probably get both for around 160 (i just looked at one on there for 160 shipped). But to answer your question yes you can use a junkyard intercooler off a factory turbo car (probe, eclipse, volvo, etc. etc.).

Yes, i ran a ebay intercooler on my hatch. For the money you can't beat them. I currently have a mishimoto intercooler but i got it dirt cheap. Otherwise i would have bought another one off ebay (sold the first one). Make sure its a bar and plate and you should be good with an ebay one, especially considering your power goals.
I have a greddy kit on my y8 Just dynoed at 242/215 @ 13 psi
picked up my johnny race car intercooler (28 inchs x 6 inch x 2.25 inchs core) for free and i run IC piping that i picked up for 60 bucks.

BUT
if you get on evans-tuning or d-series.org alot of people are getting higher on their stock motor w/ cam. well not alot but higher then me 250+.
but you can easily get 220-230 with a tune and boost controller on a greddy kit.

ebay intercoolers are fine. Theres nothing wrong with them other then there not gonna have as efficient cores as a name brands like precision. You'll be fine with one.

So this generic Mishimoto fmic that fits "civic" would be the best?

i run a cxracing intercooler and a pieced together charge pipe setup with a ton of silicone couplers. under 200 total. i make about 320 HP and have run an 11.36 at 126 mph. works fine. until you break 400 hp, i wouldn't worry about ebay intercoolers. I would listen to The Shodan too.
