Default Indycar turbo on an integra?

I have access to 3 turbo's (Garret and Holset) that were from an Indy Car... they are from approx 1994 and 2 are brand new.. They look very similar to the turbos I've seen on honda engines I haven't gotten my hands on them only seen pictures but I was told I could have one, does anyone know POSSIBALLY what kind of garrett turbo they put on indy cars back in 94? and if it will be too big for my b18? it's for sure dual ball bering and oil cooled no waste gate... any ideas if it might work?

yeah, post a pic dude. That would be interesting.

Without knowing the specs on those, one could only guess at how it would perform on your engine. I know in the late 80's, those guys were running 4 and 5 BAR of boost in those engines!!! And not to mention pushing 16k+ RPMS. So, before you jump on that, I'd say dig deep to find the specs on those.

Indy cars? Aren't they like v8's or 10's? I doubt they were using small turbos, they probally took advantage of all that displacement and used it to spool a big *** turbo. I'm guessing it's wayyy too big for you application.

Could very well be able to run that turbo. im not saying it work well but it could work considering that indy morots were boosting very high psi to obtian that 1000 hp or so </TD></TR></TABLE>

don't indy cars tend to rev up to like 14k rpm to do so?

The last iteration of turbo Indy cars were probably pretty similar to the Champ cars of that era, which probably carry over quite a bit to modern CART cars before Toyota and Honda left.

2.65litre V8 running as much as 45psi of boost (nowadays it's been limited to 34psi), peaking at around 16,000rpm (currently limited to 750hp @ 12,000rpm).

The current Garrett turbos being used are 4291's on the Ford Cosworth engines.

Sniff all you want. In the book "McLaren Honda turbo: A Technical Appraisal" it tells all about the late 80's McLaren Honda race team. They dominated the 1988 season by winning 15 of 16 races. Back then those cars were 1.5 Liter V6 engines that created 800 horsepower. with the help of 2 IHI turbos. The turbocharges engine was banned in 1989 because of the domination.

They moved on to a 3.5L V10 that was naturally aspirated and revved to 19k rpms.

Actually, if I remember correctly, back in the prime of Champ car/CART, they were running no more than .45 in/Hg which is how the boost was measured from within the cockpit.

youd be surprised how much boost some of these cars run. we have a supra that was running 42psi on a t88 and a crx running 45psi on a b18c1 and a t72...and the supra is a street car and the crx...well its a honda so it just gors to show you how much boost some cars can run with out even being a full blown race car like that indy car
