Default IM runnin too much PSI, why??

hey guys, i just got a boost guage and turns out im running 12-13 PSI at high rpms. I have a garrett turbo with an internal wastegate, and i have my boost controller turned all the way down. I was expecting to be running around 5-6 PSI. Anyone know why or what could be the problem? I have the boost guage running to a fuel vacuum line, the BOV is running to a I/M vacuum line.

Oh and something else that might help determine the problem, I can rev the engine without the BOV goin off.

any help is appreciated thanks

Either you gauge is wrong or your wastegate isnt set to 5-6 psi.. There are other problems that can cause this but these are the most obvious ones..

This isn't a problem...it's completely normal. Your engine has to be under load to build boost.

What kind of boost guage? My auto meter I think is 3 or 4 psi off on the high side. I logged it through my aem to see what my real boost was and is.

Sounds like you have a 12psi waste gate spring. If that's so, it does'nt matter how low you set the boost controller, it not gonna go below that untill you change the waste gate.

well, i just re ran vacuum lines. i T'd off teh fpr vacuum line and put teh BOV there, and put the boost guage at a vacuum line at the throttle body.

now, the boost stays below 7, and theres a freak turbo whizzing sound. like not a smooth high pitch whistle.

Is the freakie noise when your in boost or when you let off the gas??

Also you might want to invest in a vacuum block so all your vacuum sources can be referenced at one place..

If you just rerouted vacuum lines then where did you run the wategate line to?

i only rerouted the vacuum lines i mentioned. the freak noise may have been because oil, i checked the oil and determined it was low, so i put more in. the noise is still there just not as obnoxious. by the way it occurs during boost, as im climbin in RPMs

That might be normal but youll know if it doesnt sounds right.. Check to make sure the turbo spins freely and there is nothing touching the fins or anything..

is it okay to run the BOV to the fpr vacuum line, and run the boost guage to the I/M right at the throttle body?

run all your vaccume's and guages to the right of the throttle body. this way you get the boost reading going into the IM and not the charge tubes. you can T yer vaccumes off anything after the tb, i have my boost guage and bov all on the fpr vac line so i get every reading possible.

With how most Hondas are set up, true... you'll find other cars do things differently. All DSM make boost when free revving, so do the RX7, and a buncha others. Turbine sizing, yo!

im still stumped on why the noise is so, on top of it all, i really dont feel it boosting much at all, back when i put the turbo on, i use to feel it put me into the seat, now i can barely feel any pull. anyone?

You may have an exhaust leak somewhere.....

or your turbo might be on its way out...?

Heres the thing.. You dont want to run critical componets(fpr, wastegate) with other things that require alot of air or have long vacuum lines unless you make sure there is enough air flow through the source..

Meaning you dont want to run a line from a small nipple on the intake manifold to your BOV and to your FPR.. This is why the vacuum blocks are so great.. You run a line from a big port to the vacuum block(alot of people use the brake booster line).. With this you get alot of flow and quick responding changes in pressure to your componets..

This might sound confusing but look at it this way.. If you run a BOV and a FPR on the same line, and lets say your running 10 psi.. When you let off the gas, all the pressure in that line has to be sucked out.. So the fpr will see pressure changes slower than what the pressure in the intake manifold actually is.. Get it..
