Default Im having a problem fitting my fmic



Look how close the turbo is....its gonna be a tight fit no matter what i do

And the w/g is pretty much maxed out right next to the bumper...no room right there


I have a feeling im gonna have to cut the whole middle of the bumper, and mount it somewhat flush.....the turbo and w/g are still gonna be close, even if i do that

So anyone have any ideas? Or am i just gonna have to go crazy with a cutter?

what car is this in a ef? you might need a different manfoild, like a top mount or something

I dont really wanna get rid of my mani....and i thought that logs werent as efficient with high boost?

they make equal length top mounts but its not going to make the space situation much better. time to bust the cutter out it looks like...

it looks liek ur aiming for alot of hp.
that EA mount point looks prettty dinky

oh ya u will probably be stuck with running a liquid IC. probably the only thing u have room for

are u guys even looking above the motor?
a top mount wont fit there, he is gonnahave to cut all sorts of **** up if he goes top.

aint wortht he time watercool it call it a day

i agree, water to air is the way to go with that setup, plus it will keep it sleeper

I know it may make the other piping harder to route, but wouldn't you free up a lot more space in front of the turbo if you flipped it around so the compressor is facing the tranny?

Talk about a tight fit!!

I used to have an 86 hatch and that engine bay is sooo small. Have you considered a side mount intercooler?

I really have no idea how you are going to fit all that stuff in that tiny little bay.

Contact Dave (86si) on here. He has a similar Mani/wg setup and his IC appears to fit good.

Liquid to Air isn't legal in street class cars and that's what his appears to be. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, street car.....I would think a top mount would be even worse.....with even more cutting..

Looking for a decent amount of hp...already have an intercooler, so i figured id just try my best to fit the damn thing, even if i have to cut to hell

I havent really thought of the water to air......maybe ill look into it, but yeah, if i couldnt have that work for street class, maybe i should just cut the damn bumpers insides out...from the grille part straight down and try to have the IC flush somewhat..

Keep the ideas coming guys...i appreciate it

have your interooler cut in half and have end tanks put on them where the turbo/wg sit...you know split intercoolers on each side of the turbo

how much room do you have on the driver side and above the transmission? you could put an intercooler on either side, choose a side with the most room and put a duct on the hood. hrm...above the transmission would be the best choice anyways since the throttle body is there. in addition, you don't have to mount the wastegate directly on the manifold you can make an extension and route the wastegate somewhere else. also remember your not stuck with the traditional barrel pwr intercooler, precision water to air intercooler or a spearco you can convert a air to air core into a liquid to air setup. i have a liquid to air intercooler using an air to air intercooler in the space of my air box. for a heat exchanger i decided to make a split radiator one for coolant duties and one for the intercooler. your not stuck just think outside of the box.......just trying to give you some ideas.

I would have more room about the tranny, but im sure you can see the whole bay, there really isnt much room anywhere....

Topmount? No space. Water-to-Air? Not legal. Ducted? Maybe, but...

This would be waaay better!



Honestly back OT, I'd suggest one of those sidewinder manifolds. That might give you enough room. Otherwise I'd say chop a bar/plate in half & run a 6" thick bar/plate 'sidemount'. The problem with that is the pressure drop (flow) through a finned heat exchanger deceases at a higher rate then the increased cooling ability (wide/tall &gt; thick, after a certain point). Outside of that, subbies sport the topmount intercooler - any rules against huge hood scoops?

a 90 degree elbow may work.. it would push it to the side. Honestly though I think your best bet is what somebody mentioned earlier, liquid to air intercooler.

Definatly dont ditch the manifold, looks really good..

Up for the old school!!

I just moved the cold side..i pointed it kind of in the middle in between the motor and the rad support....and that freed a lot of space...

Ill post a pic of it in a lil bit

I think i have an idea for the intercooler.....for the one i have right now, i think i got a good chance to mount it to the very front....and then cut in the sides of the front bumper, and have the piping go through that

Ill try to get some pics up tonight to clarify
