IGNITION TIMING CONTROLLER
I am in the process of building a high compression ls vtec w/ nitrous. I need a unit that I can retard ignition timing on the fly. On the summit website I have found msd and crane make a ignition timing control mudules. From what I have read they both need to run a full aftermarket ignition system. Does anyone know of any timing controller that you dont need to use an entire aftermarket ignition system? I would be willing to use an external coil to make this work if I absolutly have to, but I do not want to use a complete msd (or the like) ignition system. Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

$30!!

no you dont..
I'm not sure what your background is on socketing a honda ECU but this is what came to mind. a flick of a switch and you're running your nitrous chip.
way OT, but I'd also look in to a bottle heater to keep everything constant with a 'tuned' nitrous setup.
that's not what he is asking. He does not want to run a aftermarket ignition.
BTW, TRC stands for Timing retard control no ignition boxes needed to use it.

I would look into the jacobs mastermind controller. It has alot of functions but you need to pretty good with wiring, to install it I guess. I am getting it once I get all my nitrous stuff together.

I'm not sure what you mean?
The device I posted uses 1 chip (with more memory) to switch between '2 programs' (2 bin files).

i went through the same dilemma as you. i went ahead and got the msd 6al, blaster coil, and the start/retard box. i couldnt be happier, it works flawlessly, and doesnt have any ***** or anything. you just put in the pill and it triggers retard off the nitrous solenoid.

Sell it and go with someone like Hondata or AEM EMS.

Its not the best for nitrous but I found a timing controller for 149 dollars that will suit my needs. besides I got a pretty good deal on it and the cars that run it in my area have no problems with it. The only problem i have with it is how strict apex is with it. i cant tune it on my own inless i use the commander which is sucky. luckily my tuner is a power excel dealer!!!

ohh, i thought by 2 programs earlier that was 1) the stock ecu and 2) the saved binary map... makes more sense now.
so with that chip, you save 2 bins onto the chip -- and with the ground wire grounded, you're running bin (1) and with it not grounded it runs bin (2)?

That's exactly what it sounds like to me.. however, I only know about the product - I've never used it. Moates.net is an excellent place to buy Honda ECU related gizmos..

Well i got an option that didint cost me any money. E manage ultimate. It has the capabilities to have two seperate maps (one race and one street) which is exactly what I am looking for. it didnt cost me any money because i traded it for my power fc. e manage is brand new in the box! if this **** sucks i am going to bite the bullet and get AEM

you need the support tool to be ablt to unlock it
also, the emanage dual maps are already used for the vtec crossover. so what are you going to do now?

I dont understand what you mean. as far as I know you can have 2 completely different maps. both include before and after vtec changeover.
