Default If only going turbo were this cheap...

my friend is under the impression that he can turbo his d-series civic for under $1000, hes planning on buying all the parts (maybe i could understand if he were going to fabricate them).

"Phobi 9 (3:50:43 PM): manifold, 50 bux, turbo 50 bux, flange, 70 bucks, bov and gate, 100, lines 70, piping, 40, IC 180"

someone tell this kid that hes crazy... or maybe im just wrong

Its possible, but more than likely it wont happen. There are a few ppl that have done it under 500.

I hope to get mine done for under a thousand, but I'll be using a number of used parts.

I did mine for around 1200 intercooled. It would have been under 1000 if I didn't intercool it though.

What's your beef anyways? Who cares whether he can do it or not? It's certainly possible

I've done it many times but an extra 300 or so will VASTLY improve the performance.

when i tried to turbo my prelude i ended up spending over 1700 without any fuel management before i sold the parts to a friend. im guessing its cheaper for the civic? good stuff though

Preludes are more costly to go turbo I would say. No I didn't fab any of my parts. Hf manifold was $35... Uberdata is free, DSM SMIC was $30... Everything else was the same cheapness. $500

Easily done a dseries for less than 1k. Hell, I did my bseries for around 1,500. Just always plan to have atleast twice the amount of money you hope to spend in case **** goes wrong.

How do you figure........

When I was going the cheapo way I was well on my way to spending less than 1K.

T3 turbo oil cooled NO SHAFT play internal wastegate 63 shipped
HF manifold 40 shipped

I was looking to spend less than 1K and had everything mapped out. In the end I got tired of waiting for each check to buy something, so I got a loan and bought a grerdy kit.

A grerdy kit? Wow, how much did that set you back?

Most Homemade turbo kits can be had for under $1k. Used OEM turbo parts from other cars make it much easier. But I agree, if you can fab most of your own stuff (exhaust, IC piping, even manifold), then you can save a ton of $$$!

What is a hf manifold and why are they so cheap? Are they not that good or what?

HF manifold is OEM. With an adapter plate, you can have a cheap *** turbo manifold.

An HF manifold, i recently found, is just the normal header off an hx (or a number of other civics). The way the exhaust worked on the car made it possible to just unbolt the rest of the exhaust and add a turbo and presto, you've got boost.

Mine was like $1100 for just the turbo kit. Almost all my parts were brand new also (BOV and injectors were used).
