i dentifying turbo
i have a garrett turbo i bought off my buddy. i need help identifying it. .70 a/r compressor housing and a. 84 exhaust housing. i was told a t70. not 100% sure on size been told a couple different sizes. im baffled
The housing stamps .70 and .84 are the A/R of the housings. They refer to the area/ radius measurement of the housing. For lack of a simple way to put it, it is a ratio that is used to state the area of the interior of a housing.
Is there any other markings on the turbo, perhaps a serial/ id plate on or around the chra (center section between the housing) of the turbo? Perhaps you have a picture of it you can share?
If not, what you need to know to identify it is the measure of the wheels themselves (inducer and exducer of both).

From those measures you can approximate what turbo it is and/ or somewhat determine a relatively accurate range of hp potential/ airflow.

Unless you were running really high boost it shouldnt take 3500 to make full boost. You have a leak.
That turbo wont support anywhere near 500hp

Yea, going to agree with everyone else, definately looks to be a chinese manufactured 'ebay t70' turbo. Pretty hit or miss.
For your goal I would look to change to something more capable from Garrett, Precision, or Borg Warner.
Benson sleeved f22b1 sohc with Bisimoto Arias pistons/ h beams... from another thread he posted.
