i am rebuilding my sohc is a new water pump needed
just like it says.
i know i could just buy it and get it over with, but do they even fail? they engine only had about 100k miles i will get a new oil pump for sure but i am just trying to save a few bucks

Yes they fail. I'd get a new one. I just finished my motor (270 miles on it) I changed the water pump even though the old water pump was only 1.5 years old from with it failed back then. Want the old one? Probably has 20,000mi on it. Carne Asada Burrito plus shipping (pump is from a d16z6)

Mine failed not too long ago. I would definately recommend a new water pump and oil pump when rebuilding an engine.
