Holset Turbos? HX30 or HX35 for gsr?
OK my setup for this turbo is gonna be:
ls/vtec setup
1834cc's
stock gsr head
gsr cams
9.2:1 CR
ge headstuds w/ vtec coversion kit
forged pistons (arias) & rods (eagles big bolts)
itr oil & h20 pumps
eq. length mani (toyosupra)
3" dp > ext cutout
a/w intercooled (custom made core)
wablro 255 hp
450 dsm injectors
uberdata tune
im looking for a quick spooling turbo for good street power...i want to get to 400whp w/ a relatively safe tune...and a 12 second integra
looking to run 7lbs at first then upgrade to 3bar map sensor and run 12 DD and around 16 @ the track
also most likely going to get 550's or bigger for 7psi +
any suggestions on the most suitable turbo or setup

I have 8 psi on my stock b16 by just about 4800, and a few at 3000. Lots of advance before boost and a low vtec enagagement will really help out. Your bigger motor will have no problem spooling the HX35. Probably not the turbo for you if you want a smooth powerband though.

powerband doesnt need to be all so smooth...prob gonna run slicks eventually on it...just looking to get a nice turbo for the street...quick spoolin and still have some room on the top end to make a decent 1/4mi car

then get a HY35. Your top end is going to be marginally (a few lbs/min) lower than the HX35, but it has a MUCH smaller hotside, and would spool a HELL of a lot sooner than a HX35, and with a properly designed manifold and wastegate setup, you might be able to build a system more efficent overall.

HY35 = 9cm^2 housing (versus 12cm^2 for early HX35 + 15/16cm^2 for late HX35) which I believe works out to be slightly less than a .63 AR T3. Perfect for quick spooling if you ask me, and have a big enough wastegate to divert a lot of gas efficiently.

no hy35...stupid outlet problem...and also they are just too small...prob good for a d-series...anything that small will spool a little tooo fast...hence why i think im set on the hx35...maybe uygrading to a bigger exh housing

my homie Speed Phreak runs a HX35 on his 2L sleeved 8.8:1 compression LS w/ cams. He has 13psi of boost by a little over 4 grand I believe. The HY will spool 35-40% faster than that. Think on it.

id be more than content w/ a 4grand full spool...maybe a little higher when i step up to 16psi...but 4 grand is fine by me...any sooner and ill be having major traction problems

Re: (drumking15)
HX30 is the equivalent of a .50 trim T3/04E that sucks for lower PR (poor efficiency at single digit boost). It will spool ~1000 rpms before the HX35, possibly quite similar to the HY35 which I've zero experience with.
2.0/VTEC + HX55 will spool. I haven't spoken with the gentleman who has this combo yet, so I have no details in re spool properties, but it's a built drag car over in europe.

thanks for the input mr.davis...always glad to see you chime in...
ya im figuring 42-4300 full boost...w/ the 12cm housing
if i want more power..ill prob step up to the hx40 wheel which so conviently fits in the hx35 housing mauhaaa

I would also be very interested in information on the Holset turbochargers. Are there any well trusted vendors that sell Holset products?
The holset site shows compressor flow ranges that reach pretty high on the pressure ratio axis, which is what I am interested in at 4500' above sea level. It would be much nicer to see a couple real compressor flow maps though.

Re: (drumking15)
what holset information do you need i got access to the hx30-hx50 series turbos. I ran the hx30 on ls and it felt nice allround turbo. I then sold that to j davis on here now he has it. the hx35 is also a nice setup it flows very well with its exhaust housing. Most mustang guys use the hx35 in ranges of power from 450-500hp on single turbo on stock 302. some guys have used the hx40 but mostly on diesel and high boost applications. They make hx35/40 combo if you can find them mostly aftermarket.
