you have to try...
try first with 10%, confirm and look at the boost gauge how much boost you got then slowly raise the gain 15% , 20% etc...

Like he said - you have to try.

Start with SET to get your desired boost pressure. Then dick around with GAIN and START BOOST - the manual tells you what to do when something in particular happens and what to adjust to counter-act it.

I agree, that manual is not the clearest...

I'm not 100% because I just watched my tuner set up my controller while doing the tune...

but there are 3 things he messed with, gain which just sets the boost level. then the set gain which is where you want the wastegate to start opening, and then some kind of duty cycle adjustment... I remember he played with "set gain" and the duty cycle to take out the boost spike...

sorry I can't explain well, but I know my car would steady at say 9lbs with 13lb peak boost at first when just messing with gain, then after messing set gain and whatever else, it holds 9lbs then only peak at around 10ish... so I know it has to do with controlling the boost spike.

The profec B is definately not user friendly. I had to leave the instruction manual with my tuner so he could figure it out. One of these days i need to sit down and play with it a little bit

What is so unclear and unfriendly about the Profec B? The instruction manual pretty much lays it all out there.

Is a boost controller considered 'friendly' to use if you don't have to read the instruction manual?

I'm not sure anybody here can tell you exactly what to set your controller at in order to get the boost settings you are looking for. Each turbo set up is going to be different and act a little different, as a result anybody who's using a profecB II is going to have slightly different settings. At any rate, I'll attempt to assist you in your goals. This is of course relevant to my setup and may be different with your end results but should at least get your in the general direction.

For 9.3lbs of boost on my setup these are my settings:

Set Boost- 17%
Gain- 15%
Start Boost 6.0lbs

My controller is set in lbs instead of kPa. At any rate, I'll try to elebaorate on the settings that you can further understand how to set yours up. The set boost in merely a percentage which is retarded in my opinion but you'll have to adjust this. I'd recommend adjusting it in 2% increments. The gain setting has to do with the consistency. Again, adjust this with 2% increments, also note that if you get boost spikes you'll want to adjust the gain down. Oh and one more thing about the gain setting, changing the gain setting without changing your set boost setting will also change your final boost. Start boost has to deal with when it starts opening the wastegate. I usually try to keep this within 3-4lbs of my target boost. If the start boost and set boost settings are too close together you'll get spikes.

I'd recommend driving down a fairly empty street and watching your boost gauge or using the peak boost feature on the boost controller and resetting it each time you make an adjustment.

Sorry this post is kind of long hope this helps you out. Good luck.

Before anything set boost limit 3 higher than target boost.

Your first adjustment is set boost. Remember that the number you see is boost solenoid duty cycle.......not psi kpa so every setup will need a different start bost value. On the cars I have tuned with them I have started to see a boost increase in the 20-30% range but again that is just what I have seen. If I remember right the next setting is start boost. That is when the solenoid will start cycling and let the wg begin to open. Set this around 3 psi short of your target boost to start. Start making pulls while watching boost. If you don't see an increase up the set boost(first adjustment) untill you do. Once you are starting to see your target boost on the gauge, try moving your start boost value closer to set boost. If you start to get an overshoot in boost, bring the start boost value down until that goes away. Congrats, you are most of the way done. Now make a pull in 3rd or 4th. Do you have a fluctuation on the boost gauge? If no then you are all set. If yes start increasing the gain untill it smooths out. I love this boost control as once you are familiar with it you can set it up quickly and make some great gains in spool time.
