How to Tune & Modify Engine Management Systems-Book
Just wondering if anyone has read this book by Jeff Hartman before? I picked it up a few days ago and it is definately a great read. Its a couple years old, but there is lots of info on tuning theory for anybody looking to get into that sort of thing.
The chapters in the book are:
1 - Understanding Fuel Delivery
2 - Understanding Automotive Computers and PROMs
3 - Sensors
4 - Actuators and Actuator Systems
5 - Hot Rodding EFI Engines
6 - Recalibrating Factory ECUs
7 - Interceptors and Auxiliary Computers
8 - Standalone Programmable Engine Management Systems
9 - EMS/EFI Engine-Swapping
10 - Roll-Your-Own EFI
11 - Installation and Startup Issues
12 - Designing, Modifying, and Building Intake Manifolds
13 - EMS Tuning 101
14 - EMS Troubleshooting
15 - Emissions and Onboard Diagnostics
16 - Project Vehicles

so after reading this book, do u think u can tune at least one engine management??? i feel as though its a good intro but how can u cover like 15 engine managements in like 20 pages??? or is this another book???
Actually this book has 271 pages
....its not an in depth step by step on tuning guide on working a particular engine managment system, but it goes over a lot of complex concepts and even goes in depth on things like how the circuitry of an ecu works and talks about how it has changed over the years.
Oh and the other book your are probably thinking of is Ben Strader's book. I have that one too and its a good intro like you said, but doesn't go near as in depth as this one.

Yeah I got that book too. Pretty good read, but at the stage I was when I read it. I didn't learn much. The troubleshooting section was nice and I sometimes use it when I'm stuck
. The Real world examples are nice to, but they didn't really push that CRX at all

Yea so far I pretty much know everything that i've read aside from some of the stuff where they talk in depth about how certain circuits and things function. If you are just getting started though I think it would be a very interesting read.
i saw that book at border's the other day. flipped through it and it looked pretty solid.
bump for more people, like myself, trying to learn more about efi and tuning

If your intent is one of the Honda ECU based solutions, you'll learn more by reading the PGMFI sensor descriptions and following the troubleshooting flowcharts in a Helms; and then looking at how map trace/datalogging and suchlike works on a stock car with a stock tune. Memorize your CELs, memorize ECU pins and wiring colors for your OBD. Boom, instant tuenarboi, just add wideband.
But, general knowledge is always good
My books take up more space than the four cars I possess - interesting factoid I discovered in my recent move.

I done a fair amount of reading and watching over very experienced tuners shoulders, I then sat the EFI University 101 course and it help gel what I thought I knew and understood.
