There is some desodering tape you can buy at radio shack. Get some of that (it soaks up the soder already on the board, just put it on the hole but the soder gun tip on the tape and its like magic). Then put your part on and soder the joints.

Well, just be aware that if you overheat the board, a trace can easily lift. If that happens your screwed. You have to be careful with the heat...and cheap soldering guns/irons have no temp control. Also, be aware of the protective coating on the board. You can easily remove it with some break cleaner...it doesn't harm the board at all. Problem will be, you've removed the coating from surrounding areas as well. There is simply more to it that you need to be aware of. You can EASILY ruin your ecu...have no doubts.

I personally solder boards with a p.o.s. pencil sized iron. I have alot of success with a sharp tip, and some very fine solder. If you use the big thick stuff your going to screw it all up. Right tools for the job are the key.

Honestly, if your not sure about it, just pay someone locally. TV repair shops can easily do that job for cheap. That would only take me 15 min. with the cheap crap I use.

that will be easy. just buy any desoldering tool. either desoldering gun, braid, or a sucking tool like a vaccuum thingy. just heat it up, and as soon as the lead goes liquid, suck them out.

ive done more than 100ecus already. you can DIY that.

you dont have to get those expensive temp controlled irons and stuff.

A six pack...that's chump money. Don't take the process for granted...you will fry an ecu if you aren't careful.

i've done numerous ECU chippings w/ the radio shack de-soldering gun and a regular soldering iron..

INfact today, i just desoldered my s200 socket and soldered in the components for my s300.. if you've done it before, its not that hard.. if you're new to electronics and soldering, find some old computer boards and start practicing..

yep. i hate it when people discourage others to DIY. its really simple actually. im using a 1.50$ soldering iron and a desoldering sucker. works like a charm
