How safe is it to go without a tune? turbo d16y8
Quick stupid question. How safe would it be for me to roll around without a tune until i can get the car into the shop. I have DSM 450's installed and programed into the emange. I have a T3/To4b turbo. If i do not boost, will it be safe to drive around for alittle while?
Thanks Chuck

Re: (00BoostedD16)
Im not tryin to steal your post I just had a quick question then im done, when I go to get my car tuned what exactly do they do? Im thinkin since im adding turbo and all that the tuner would just retard my timing, adjust the hondata chip, and pretty much make the car drivable, after I add everthing?

it's real hard not to hit boost. it happens on accident easier then you think.
as another safe gaurd, retard your timing a little and create a leak in your piping. just lossen the intercooler piping or something.
platinum.

he's right. I have an internal wastegate and just disconect the wastegate rod and leave the gate open. it works and you can floor your car and not have to worry about boosting. have fun

Re: How safe is it to go without a tune? turbo d16y8 (00BoostedD16)
i drove from late may till first week of july untuned never once went into boost, all because i was waiting on a 2mm cometic headgasket that was on back order, that really sucked but it was well worth the wait, and the headgasket was suppose to be in 2 days after the install began this was some real ****
so i would say its safe as long as your responsible and you dont beat on it, now boost stay in vacum

it's not THAT hard. i drove around for a whole week on stock injectors till i got my injectors in. didn't hit boost at all. drove it to and from work and school. just gotta baby it, be careful and watch the boost gauge.

I disagree with all of you I know plenty of people that drive everyday IN boost and rip on it plenty and dont have it tuned. My friend runs 14lbs on his z6 in his del sol and beats on it really hard and hasn't had any problems. You dont need to worry you can boost it just dont rip on it hard. You guys are freaks

If anyone else wants to toss some more input in, go for it, the more the better.

Those are both not good ideas. Firing the cylinder later results in more pressure, and heat, escaping the combustion chamber out the exhaust valve, instead of being spent driving the piston down. This extra energy goes right to the turbine, and helps spool the turbo.
Leaks in charge pipe result in the turbo being overspooled, and killing it.
