how to read compressor maps?
So, how do you interpret these graphs? I know cfm matters, as well as spool time, but how can you figure any of this out from the graph?

sweet, I understand now.
so much so, i made an internet program to calculate CFM and PR for you:

Uhm.. according to your calculations, my car will be boosting 10psi by 2000rpm. LOL! I wish.. Also, you have 10psi as 1.78 for PR.. that is wrong. It should be 1.68 whether you use 14.5 or 14.7 as atm pressure.
Input your info and it will plot it automatically. You can compare between maps.....

I can't use the other one because my work computer doesn't use the JAVA.

what I meant about intercooler loss is:
PR= (boost+ATM)/ATM
I was told the intercooler loses ~1.5 psi so I did
PR= (boost+ATM+1.5)/ATM
where ATM=14.7 psi. If that 1.5psi addition is wrong, just DON'T check the box.

I wouldn't go with those turbo calculations.. they have good programs for getting hp and flow maps.. but their "recommended turbo" program sucks. For your D16, get like a T04b/T3 S3 trim (big), T3 Super 60 (medium), T3 60 (medium), or a 16g.
Hmm I dunno, you don't find a T04 to be just a touch LARGE for a D16? Thanks for the 411 on turbofast's page though. I used their "Drag Racing" calculator and it was actually remarkably acurate with my last trip to the track, but I guess I'll take their reccomendations with a grain of salt heh
Just assuming that a T04 is large is not right. There are many different trim levels. The T04b/T3 S3 I mentioned is just a little larger than a T3-super 60. The same turbo is smaller than all the turbo's that DRAG and RevHard offer in their kits.. so yes it is small enough for the D16. Just make sure you get a .48 ehaust housing.
Ok, now this is gonna be the basic of basics.. I'm pretty familiar withthe Mitsu system of turbo's (TD's and their corresponding wheels sizes like m 15G), but I'm dead ignorant with Garett's/Turbonetics "T" turbo's. I mean I "kinda" understand a little, T25 is pretty small, T3 is a little larger, T4 etc.. but is there a good internet resource where I can kinda compare turbo sizes by their label? Oh and thanks for the info Rob
