I have a used short block that I want to be overhauled. Basically I want to make sure that everything is in spec. I also was planning on getting new bearings and rings.

So how much would an engine builder charge for this? Basically just pull the engine apart, examine everything, and put it all back together again with new rings and bearings.

 

IMO you could do this yourself with a little reading and someone to help maybe.

from just looking around online places charge around $1500 for a full rebuild with OEM parts. Only the block is reused.

It would just be hourly rates at a local shop. your best bet is to call around.

 

Well just from reading my Haynes, the job seems simple enough, but I'd have to buy a bunch of tools. Maybe it would still be cheaper than paying someone else though...
