How much for turbo install???
For those who have turbo'd their car, how much did they charge you for labor? I live in the south Bay Area, and they're charging me from 1k-2k to install my turbo.
Im running this setup...
Garret T3/60-1 Compressor
Garret Intercooler 24X8X3.5
Tial wastegate
Tial BOV
RC injectors 550CC
Walbro Fuel Pump
Aeromotive FPR
Custom Down Pipping
However I'ma be running it at 6-7 PSI's do to having a stock bottom and head. What do you guys think. Where else do you reccomend to get a turbo installed at a cheaper price in near the south bay area?

Re: How much for turbo install???
when i charge for install it all depends on the manifold and how much fabrication will be needed for charge pipes and exhaust, i dont' see how they could get 2000, although 1,000 is not too far out there

Thats another thing, I dont know which manifold to go with. They're not sure how much fabricate they're gonna use.

DIY!! (do it yourself) helps if u have or kno someone with a welder and basic tools. i did mine within one weekend with the help of friends.. it's not really that hard, charge piping is the thing thats a PITA

Re: How much for turbo install???
have someone fab up the charge pipes, install the rest of the kit yourself. 2k is an absolute rip off. If you can turn a wrench, you can install a turbo kit. It really isnt too tricky. I wouldnt even pay 1k for someone to do a swap on my car, and thats much more involved.

Re: How much for turbo install???
just buy a decent manifold and downpipe that are made to fit together and charge piping made for the car/setup. you can get it fabbed up or http://www.spoolinperformance.com/94...ing-p-587.html
the install itself is pretty straight forward you can learn how to do it all yourself on the faq at the top of the page.

Re: How much for turbo install???
Do it yourself man...installing a turbo kit is like any other bolt up part...get most of it on, then take the car to get some welding action done...pay $200 and enjoy the car.
Or spend $7,000 on a full-race kit that fits perfectly...haha

Re: How much for turbo install???
some turbo kits are really easy to install and some aren't
i personally know alot of people who i wouldnt trust to install an oil line let alone the whole turbo kit
you people forget the oil drain lines, the oil drain into the pan, the feed liines etc, these are important things and while easy for people who have done it, they aren't easy for everyone

Ahhh come on man..that stuff is not that hard even for newbs. I mean, sure its time consuming, but its common sense. Pull the oil pan, get a -10an bung welded on, install the fitting on the turbo, run a oil restrictor on the turbo, get a -3an line to run to the turbo and make a oil block for it (do NOT use that T in the back of the block..its too heavy and your threads will eventually strip out of the block).
I'd say if the OP has any mechanical experience he should try it himself. I did my first full motor build and turbo kit last spring having very little experience with any sort of motor work, and I built an entire motor in my basement and installed everything on my car myself just from reading online, etc....It's a good learning experience to try and do things yourself.

Re: How much for turbo install???
Well... what all are they doing?
To me, a turbo install is installing the turbo kit, oil lines, etc. Then putting in a clutch. Then tuning it. So that's easily 2K in labor right there.
Depends on what they're doing, you need to be a bit more specific. Also, if there is any kind of fabrication involved you'd bet your bottom that labor price is going to go way up. Fabbing is time consuming, and therefore, not cheap.

Re: How much for turbo install???
Well, if your in no position to install this kit and these people are reputable or you've seen thier work, then just talk to them about the price. Typical setups through my shop range from about 600.00 to 1500.00 to install.
The issue that alot of the people who are always looking to chop costs are having, is they put it in themselves, then when it's finished they've either done so many things wrong, or there is so much that needs corrected that it all needs repaired. In the end, they still spend more money and lose time.
You can do it yourself and it'll look like a first timer did it, or you can pay the shop to do it clean. It really all depends on the end quality your after. If you have no experience with fab or welding, then unless your ready to purchase a welder and take it serious to do good work then just pass it on and make your car look like quality and not diy junk.

Yeah exactly, thats what I dont wanna do. do it wrong and end up paying more and also make it look clean. How much time consuming and cost for the fabricating. What exactly is that.

Re: How much for turbo install???
We charge $450, and thats for the basic kit, includes tapping the oil pan as well. We just did one actually last week, pretty simple kit, was well pieced together by the customer, a few issues came up with the kit an his chassis but we took care of them with the parts we had in stock.
Just make sure the shop is reputable and they know what they are doing. All the prices you just qouted sound pretty fair.

Re: How much for turbo install???
I'de quote it around $700-$1,000. assuming I will have to do some fab work and provide some materials (almost always do even when the customer says they have a "complete kit")
