how much nitrous can stock b16 handle?

I say just remember that factory oem honda pistons will shatter at the frequency that NOS detonates at. I say go forged and then squeeze away.

You can spray on factory pistons, look at the stuff ZEX makes, the majority of ther product is intended for stock cars. As for how much to spray on a sotck b16, i would spray a 50 shot max unless you upgraded the fuel system (fuel pump). Then to spray more you need retard the timing 2 degrees for the 75 shot, and pick up some coder plugs. Spray away man..

do you think i could safely run a 100 shot with the timing and fuel needs met.
what could i use to adjust the timing on the fly?
would a v-afc be sufficient to meet fuel needs in combination with a wlabro inline pump? what about injectors?

Correct but you want to do a 4 degree retard for 75 shot. I've seen a B16 go on a 80 shot and a 75 shot. I would look into zex. i ran a 75 shot for over a year. No problems. From what i've been told from a honda tech "Nitrous starts to fry the pistons after a 34 orphis (which is a 60shot). That's with no other upgrades. I'm not saying it happens but it can. But a 50shot is easy and there is no need for other upgrades. Go bigger, you will need to do a little more.

Check this guy's piston's out after beating with a 75 shot. Doesn't seem to "fried" to me. http://pub143.ezboard.com/fhon...topic
I'll post pics of mine in about 2-3 months.

Well i cant speak from my own experiences, but a buddy of mines 00 SI is in the shop right now having a new shortblock installed and a a few other misc. things i cant remember off the top of my head, all i remember is he burnt a hole in 1 valve, fried like 2 pistons and his whole block looks like it had a torch tooken to it, from just a 80 shot, but then again he is (was) a dumbass and didnt have any fuel upgrades or anything and not even colder plugs atleast, lol. I've got one of his spark plugs as a suvineor, all 4 broke.

It all comes down to tuning. I've ran 100 shot direct port on my Crv/vtec stock bottem end for one full race season. NO problems. On my b16 with stock bottem end I've ran 70 single fogger for a few months almost a full year. NO problems.

shouldnt the crv and b16 bottom ends be just as strong. in fact shouldne the b16's be stronger from factory b/c/ itsa vtec motor?i.e rods, crank, etc...

Re: how much nitrous can stock b16 handle? (88crx91integra)
i was spraying 120-125 shot on a BEAT B16. if the Nitrous is tuned properly and you have the proper fuel and iginition, then you shouldn't have any problems. i sprayed the motor every other weekend for about a year. i blew up and cracked a lot of pistons in the process of jetting the Nitrous properly. NOS has their jetting combination but once you upgrade your fuel system it changes, so you have to figure it out for yourself.
since i re-built the motor about 4-5 times with used parts (pistons, rings & headgasket), i think it was a 15sec car off the bottle. on the bottle it ran a 13.1 @ 101mph. i only got 2 run for day but i know it could have ran faster.
here was my set-up:
Pro Fogger NOS 4 Fogger Kit
MSD 6al, ignition wires
AEM Fuel Rail
B&M FPR
Walbro 255 pump
13 Degrees ignition timing
#9 NGK Copper plugs
always 93 octane
the B16 had stock internal with an AEM CAI and a bootleg 2 1/4inch exhaust in a EG.
i don't suggest you spray 120 shot right away. if you're using a 4 fogger then start with an 80 shot and work your way up if you are not satisfied and the motor can handle it. first you have to figure out the proper fuel and nitrous combination (jetting) for your setup. then you can go up in steps if you want to spray more nitrous.
exampe, if this combo works for you:
14(F) - 22(N)
and you want to spray more then go up in steps:
16(F) - 24(N)
or
18(F) - 26(N)
hope this has helped you.

Re: how much nitrous can stock b16 handle? (88crx91integra)
You can run a 50 shot without anything. If you want to go 75 you should upgrade fuel and ignition, so you can retard the timing. For 100 shot you would want to have forged pistons, and probably some better rods, maybe crower, or eagle. As far as kits go, i have had good experiences with Nitrous Express. Correct me if im wrong guys but ive heard Zex is rated at the crankshaft, while NX is rated at the ground. So supposively if you ran a 50 shot of NX, it would put down more power than a 50 shot of Zex. Im not positive but when i researched mine before i bought a kit, thats what i came back with.

Re: how much nitrous can stock b16 handle? (NoBoost)
i am speaking from experience. he can spray whatever he wishes, although i suggest starting with the smallest shot possible which NOS states is an 75 shot with a 4 fogger. work your way up if the motor can handle it.

What I was refering to is if you squeeze on stock pistons and you get DETONATION,(like its not tuned properly), you run a good chance of shattering your pistons. It just a fact, the honda handbuilder book volume 2 even speaks on this matter.

Well, if you squeeze on forged pistons and get DETONATION(with improper tuning), guess what happens then.......same thing that happens to your stock pistons. bang. You won't hear detonation on the juice, because it's already too late. Detonation destroys built motors as easily as it can destroy stock ones.

If you want to be safe, don't go over 75 shot on stock internals. It could hold 100 shot, well tuned, but you may screw your motor. Just not worth it, IMO. I run a 75 shot now on a stock D16 bottom. I am building a new bottom end in order to go up to 100-125 shot.

Re: how much nitrous can stock b16 handle? (RyanCivic2000)
bseries bottom ends are a little bit stronger than dseries so this is what i have come up with out of this post:
i can go 75hp direct port safely. however, if i get the car good timing and fuel requirements met and tune it on a dyno i can spray 100 safely, and if i want to get dangerous, 120, but that 120 wont hold up for long.
anyone disagree?
