Default How much boost can I run safely?

I just got a del sol last week and it has what looks like a d15b bottom end with a p20 head I think is what I saw. It has a GReddy turbo kit on it with a Spearco FMIC and I think it's running on stock injectors and motor internals. The guy I bought it from said it is running 6.5 psi right now. I fill the gas up with 91 octane and right now its still about 100 degrees everyday for a high. Whats safe to run as far as boost? What would be safe to run at the track? Is that motor setup any good for power? Thanks for the help.

37 psi at 9800rpm sounds about right.

put the highest grade octane u can get in there 93 at least.

you dont even know how much boost your running get a boost gauge right away. cause SOHC bottom ends without tuning are a 7-8psi MAX!

boost is a relative term. its manifold pressure and depends on about 20 different things.

turbo size, IM and alot of other stuff

I don't think so. Just a B&M FPR. I think thats it. And all thats available here in AZ is 91 octane, so thats as good as it gets. I'm not going to make special trips all the time to put some race gas in.

6 is safe but I would consider getting an FMU at minimum, say like a vortec or something... or you can go with vafc hack and tune up the fuel... turbo's hate arizona for two reasons... hot and 91 octane...

D series bottom ends should hold 7psi safely, Don't do much more.

LOL, boost pressure has nothing to do with it. SOHCs can handle roughly 220whp on stock internals, give or take. Don't run it too long though.

but check it out, he said it had a greddy kit, so I assume its a Td04 turbine that they use which equates to about .5bar on that systems box if it even has that... Him jumping up to 220 would mean almost double that which his setup will not hold... my 2 cents but oh well...

I have a greddy kit too, same turbo and everything. It's pre-set at 5.5psi from the wastegate.

So when I get a AVC-R I should be good to go then. I can adjust the air and fuel on that.

Do yourself a BIG favor and get some sort of engine managmet, either HONDATA, AEM, or cheaper solution the VAFC, YOU are risking blowing your stuff up otherwise. .. Also get a good boost gauge.

hrm my friend has over 20k miles at 10psi spiking to 12 daily and it sees redline from stoplight to stoplight...bone stock d-series, drove it to florida, 2 hour trips every weekend etc

its all in the tuning keep it under a low 200 or conservative 200whp range u will be fine just get headgasket and headstuds

So whats wrong with getting the avc-r to tune it? Can't that tune the same way a vafc can with the exception of boost control instead of vtec control?
