How many of you blow up Honda Trannys??
Just curious. I hear about plenty of you with broken ringlands, blown headgaskets...but not many trannys.
I have lots of friends with DSMs, and they destroy trannies all the time, and Im not talking just the AWD cars either.
One guy I know has a FWD 2nd gen eclipse and he has stripped gear teeth in 3 trannies, only with about 300 whp. He is working on a 600whp setup now and I can only imagine the probles he is going to have.

My original tranny in the Civic was pretty much gone. 2nd and 3rd gear syncs were chewed and the fork was bent nicley.
Right now my GS-R's tranny is hurting too, 3rd and 4th grind at high rpm without double clutching and it looks like I may have bent the fork as well!

original tranny had a grinding 3rd due to shitty driving
temporary used dx tranny lasted for a year boosted but i went pretty easy on it
picked up an ex to put in and found it had a bad mainshaft bearing already
got another ex and it's been perfect

I am making close to 400hp on a gsr tranny and I recently had to replace the bearings that was it. Gears were fine, synchros sharp. Its pretty much a given that the trannys will have some problems when you throw alot of hp at them.

I have been known to break a intermediate shaft and bend all the splines on the axles and also I know a lot about breaking diffs Iv edone that too but hond atranny's are great and they put up with abuse

I ruined the input shaft bearings on my dx trany. The ex has bigger bearings so hopefully they hold up better.

DSM 5 spd transmissions blow up like no other.
there is a fast AWD dsm that re-builds his tranny almost every pass.
the auto's are pretty good though.
i dont know how this relates to hondas.
most people seem to blow spider gears out.

two of them the diff blu up
and other would not go in to 4th at all but every other gear works fine
and the other started to pop out of 3rd gear and 5th gear
and now i just put a h22 tranny in there and its in good shape for now

2nd gear synchro is bad (only at high rpms) and 3rd gear is starting to grind as well. Stock motor. Hard driving.

Re: How many of you blow up Honda Trannys??
been through several trannies
1st, 3rd, & 5th gears seem to always go out
only major thing was blowing a diff when I had the Random Grip.

Re: How many of you blow up Honda Trannys?? (HXMan)
it's back and DSM trannys still suck
It seems most of the honda tranny complaints are related to driver error/abuse. But overall honda 5 speeds are great i think. One reason i switched from VW to honda after building imports for a couple years. So many meatsticks around hear seem like they are trying to break their tranny on every shift regardless of driving situation. If you get 3rd gear rubber you are the man yo!!!! either way these kids are not breaking trannys in hondas. I have done 3 DSMs and 2 VWs recently though......
