it actually says right on the water pump. so thanks for the pic. the answer is 22 teeth. see on the back of the pump it says 22T. thanks for the quick reply..i appreciate it.

Yup, 22 on a VTEC, 17 on a nonVTEC...

can u run a vtec water pump on an ls?? what would be the advantage of doing this??

yes you can as long as you use the vtec timing belt..

it is 22 teeth and you will use the timming belt that matches the water pump,

higher rate of oil flow?
that pump is made to pump more oil up to the head to support vtec's needs. it will just be a better flowing rate compared to your stock ls pump.

that's what i think the benifit would be

When did Honda start making their water pumps pump the oil too?

well i figured that it would flow more water....but i dont know how a water pump can flow more oil...

yes the ls pump has 19 it says how many teeth just like the gsr and itr says 22 teeth and yes i run a gsr water pump 22 teeth on my lsvtec works great just change your timing belt to match the water pump

how does this go then. I have a B16 water pump that i want to use on my LS block. I will be using a GSR head.. what belt? GSR right? how many teeth are on a B16 water pump?

Seems like more teeth = flows LESS...

right? More teeth = spins slower. Unless there is something fundamentally different about "pump portion" the inside of the pump

you have to use the gsr belt, because of the increased deck height (4mm i think)

the pump with less teeth spins slower, therefore less caviation occurs, but i guess the engineers thought that the vtec pumps needed to spin faster to provide enough flow when the motor was running at higher rpms for extended periods of time.

the only difference among the vtec pumps as i understand it, is the itr water pump, which has shorter veins to prevent cavitation at higher rpms... guess which one im running (itr)

please dustin help me out here. I have a LS block and gsr head. If i use my B16 water pump, which belt would i use? And is this a PERFECT match. Can i just use an LS pump and Ls belt with this setup??

think about it, 19t vs 22t

one inch on a gsr timing belt has 3 teeth (yes i measured just now)

so when that 3 teeth rolls over the water pump gear, the one with 22t rotates more than the one with 19t, think back to trigonometry, with angular speed, anuglar distance, etc

you have to use the gsr belt, because the gsr block is 4mm taller than the b16 (the same applies to the ls and crv blocks as well) You could use your ls timing belt and water pump, but then youd have to use the ls oil pump as well, which wont flow the reqired amount for a vtec head (if i remember correctly)

on my b20/vtec im using an itr water pump and oil pump, and a b16 head along with a gsr belt. the b16 head flows the best, but your gsr head will be just fine

I'm thinking about it. With 19 teeth, the circumference of the pulley is smaller, i.e. for a given distance of timing belt, this 19tooth one will rotate the vanes inside the pump more than the 22 tooth pump.

Imagine if you had a 200 tooth water pump gear... the water pump would be spinning extremely slowly in comparison to timing belt speed....

This is why on supercharger setups you use a SMALLER pulley to spin the blower faster...

Larger pulley radius/circumference = slower speed but more applied rotational torque. Smaller pulley radius/circumference = faster speed but less applied rotational torque.

Or am I crazy?

someone told me that i could use my b16 pump and b16 timing belt with my ls block and gsr head.

the itr water pump and the gsr water pump has the same part number..

hmmm, you bring up a good point, maybe i'll ask my physics/trig teacher tomorrow, you wouldnt happen to know the diamters for both pumps would you?

you cannot use your b16 timing belt, the ls block is taller than the b16, which means that the b16 belt is shorter than a gsr belt, it wont work, you can however, use the pumps
