How to make my engine last ?
I left the Honda crowd a while ago when I sold my 94 GSR.
I then bought an MR2 Turbo which I still have and enjoy. I am considering getting another Integra except this time i wanna turbocharge it.
My problem is that everyone I know that has turbocharged his/her Honda manages to blow it up somehow. Some of the people are of course idiots boosting too high on stock engines, while some of them I know take good care of their cars.
Here is what I would like to know from you veteran Honda guys. (I searched over 21 pages of the FI forum looking for some answers and looked through the FAQ btw)
What gives out on, say.. a stock B18C1 first?
Lets say you have a good tune, conservative 270-300 whp on 93 octane. Is it the ringlands, rods, rings.. etc?
Basically what Im wondering is what kinda of engine lifespan I can expect with a stock well maintained engine and what kinda lifespan I can expect with an engine build with FI in mind?
TIA

I know you say you searched over 21 pages in the FI forum, but you still haven't utilized the search button.
All of your questions are answered every day. The "weakest" part all depends on how well it is tuned. On a healthy tune, you will make that power no problem. Typically, ringlands tend to go if detonation is present. Nothing a det can can't take care of.

The seach function did in fact help me draw the conclusion that ringlands might be one of the weaker points in the system. I found lots of bits and pieces on the subject but nothing conclusive.
I appreciate your input on the matter. It seems to reinforce some of my conclusions.

i would like to know the same. If someone plans on getting around below 300 horse by turbocharging, what would be likely to go on a stock B18C1. if properly tuned i assume that a stock block with stock internals would handle it. someone said that the ringlands are the first to go, but in a book i read they (including Russ Collins) said that they prefer stock OEM rings opposed to total seal rings. I plan on boosting my B18C1 this summer I'm shooting for around 275 WHP. I have a built head but I'm wondering about the block for a D.D. I know it seems stupid but what do you guys think.
