how long do i break in???
I broke the ring lands on my pistons a few weeks back so we pulled the motor apart and put 8.5:1 srp pistons in and je turbo rings. I changed the rod bearings and the crank bearings. I was wongering how long i need to beak in the motor. I heard 1000 miles, then a local speed shop said that i should take my car from 20 to 70 mph at a 70% load, then then it should be fine and the rings will be seated. Is this acurate?

I've heard that rings seat fairly quick, around 100 miles, but most people use 500-1000 miles as a guidline

for 500 mile with no constance speed. What some people do is they put their car in 3 gear and then drive it up to 40-50 then let it drop down to 25-30 then bring it back up.

I thought staying away from constant speeds was only really necessary when braking in cams?
oop's, my bad, just spoke with a tech in our shop. fresh cams are broke in within the first 20-30 mins of startup, and varriance in speed does help seat rings. Chrome rings typically take longer to seat than molly.
