I was wondering if anyone knew how hot a typical manifold/turbine/dp. I'm getting ready to throw my turbo back on after the rebuild, and I want to paint my manifold and turbine. I've used some 1500 degree paint in the past, and it's worked well, but this time I wanted to go with an aluminum color instead of the black I had before, but the aluminum color paint only comes in a 1200 degree variety. Would this be able to stand up to the heat of a manifold/turbine? I've painted my manifold and dp with the black 1500 degree stuff before, and it holds up excellent, but I don't know about the 1200 degree stuff. I know my EGT reads 700-800 C during boost, and that's like 1300-1400F. Would the temperature of the manifold be higher or lower than the temp of the exhaust gases?

its impossible for it to be hotter.

i would stick with what works. personally i wouldnt care about the color.

Thanks for the replies. I'm unemployed, so I'm on a pretty tight budget and any kind of a professional coating isn't really an option. As I've said, the 1500 degree stuff works well and holds up nicely for me on the manifold:

I was just wondering if the 1200 degree stuff would be up to the task. If I can't get a definitive answer, I'll probably just stick with the 1500 degree black. Thanks again.

Is the stuff you used before made by Krylon? Paint for painting grills and bbq's? That's what I used on my exhaust manifold heatshield and it seems to work. It is rated to hold up 1200, I think.

The 1500 degree stuff is made by Plasti Kote(sp?). It works very well, but you have to cure it in order for it to set properly. The new 1200 degree stuff I got is made by Dupli-Color. I got the 1500 degree stuff at Pep Boys, and the 1200 degree stuff at Kragen.Do you think the 1200 degree stuff would hold up on a manifold or turbine housing?

I used some 1200 degree paint on my valve cover and that ***** already bubbling.

Look into VHT. They have 1500 degree in many colors...and the stuff holds up really well too. It's about $9 a can though...

Edit: http://www.caswellplating.com/vht/vht_high.htm there ya go...check out all those colors...I particularly think "almond" or "antique white" would look mighty fine on your manifold.

Will do. The frugal part of me will probably end up using the $5/can 1500 degree black stuff I have though

bubbling on the valve cover?? i've had my 1200 degree paint on my valve cover for about 1 1/2 years and it still looks as good as the day i painted it..

VHT 1500 degree Flame-Proof paint bought at NAPA $5~$7 been on for almost a year no probelms so far. I put alot of coats on it.

Looks like that 1200 degree **** is going back to the store, and I'll go hunting for the VHT stuff. Or else I'll just use the black 1500 degree stuff I already have.

Thats from a Saab. I used to have a turbo saab. Biggest piece of **** ever.

After 30 mintue drive back from work I should see the turbo glowing, but not any where near like your pic.

The paint on turbosol's mani looks very nice, I have seen it in person. I couldn't believe how well it was holding up!

It will be jethot for me though, I need a little more bLiNg BlInG...
