Default HOW THE HELL DO I SET MY TIMING

here's the problem, i'm running an obd2 99h22a4 motor. the crank pulley doesn't have the timing marks like the obd1 pulley's. the genius's at clutch masters didn't put a timing mark on my flywheel so i'm stuck right now.
how the hell do i check my timing.

my friend told me that on his audi, he checked timing by putting the crank at tdc. then he put a long thin screw driver in the number 1 cylinder. he found tdc and marked the flywheel accordingly. he then used the timing light to time it.

is this possible or a good idea?

What do you want to know about your timing? It's stock. 99H22a, you can't change the timing. The TDC and CKP sensors are on the crank in that motor and turning the distributor means nothing. Are you trying to test a BTM or something. I'm not quite certain how you would do it without flywheel marks.

If you want to find TDC without the flywheel, take the valve cover off (unless it's already cut for cam gears) and point the little arrow on the cam gears straight up.

so is it impossible for the 97-up prelude motors to be out of wack in regards to timing. the timing will always be set at stock, is that correct? controlled by the ecu?

The timing is controlled by the computer based on the TDC and CKP sensor readings. The older engines had these sensors in the distributor, so turning the distributor would advance/retard the timeing. The only sensor left in our distributors is the CYP sensor that's just a home signal and doesn't affect timing. Turning the distributor does nothing.

You shouldn't have any issues with your timing unless you've gotten something that effects timing like the BTM or J&S. There's also no way to retard timing manualy.

Here's the H22a4 dissy. You can see the one tooth wheel and CYP sensor below the ignitor. The H22a1 dissy looks quite different.
