how do u install rods/pistons????
well i bought a set of rods from manley and the installer thats putting my block together is saying that they dont fit.... the installer is telling me that in order to install the rods they have to fit into the cyclinders from the top... is that true or not??? cause i called up manley and there telling me that u install them from bottom up... thats what i thought too from bottom up.... but heres pics of my block/ rods as u can see they dont fit into the cyclinders... how do u install them from top or the bottom???

and one more question... does the hole that they drilled for the sleeves look really close to the wall or is it just me???? cause i personally havent seen the block in person but it looks close... look at the bottom left drilled hole....

well if u assemble rods and pistons together and use ur standard ring compressor then it'd be from the top.
i'm not sure how u'd do it from the bottom tho.
maybe some way of getting pistons/rings in from top, pushing it to bottom until enough peeks out to install pins/rods from bottom? i'm no expert either so i have no idea.
i plan to do it the normal way for my buildup.
good luck

u cant install them from the bottom.....
theres some material on the bottom of sleeves that wont allow that to happen
anyways if u do. witout the pistons u can install them.....
i think they sent u the wrong rods
check the part #'s

I have not heard of it being done from the bottom. What block are these for? I know on a d series block the pistons will not even fit through the bottom, I had an extra y8 block and one of the pistons slid too far down and the rings popped out the sleeves but the piston would not clear part of the block itself. The pistons were stuck because there was no way they would clear the bottom and the rings had to be broken to get them out the top. Is it possible manley engineered a set of rods without anyone ever trying them or even looking at the block first.

wow those coolent passages they machined/drilled look like **** IMO
...what kind of sleeves are those?
it looks to me (in the pic at least) that they drilled those holes too big and even hacked into the top of the sleeve on the right and into the block on the left...maybe im wrong but i see blown gaskets and overheating issues accuring??
..maybe its just the pic?

Muckman, here are some pics of my LS block. I don't think it's possible to pull the pistons out of the bottom of the bore. In the first and second picture you can see where the material from the crank bearing seat goes up to "square off" part of the hole for the bore...you won't be able to get a piston out from the bottom.

its aebs close deck sleeves... thats what i said about the drilled holes they do look like ****... what does everyone think???
and i have called manley but no answer... ill try again tomorrow.. hopefully they can help me.... cause i want this damn thing running soon...

Do like I said above....take measurements of the rod dowel journal and bearing journal and the overall length [stroke] and call Manley with these and I bet they sent you some B series rods.
I would call them back or check the part numbers to see y they dont fit, I think they are the wrong rods you cant install them from the bottom, and the holes that where drilled that looks like **** and why would they drill thoese ones out and not the others? I think you will have headgasket problems with the way they were drilled looks like some one used a hand drill on it not a good job
yeah those dilled holes do look like ****... ill be calling manley again tomorrow... hopefully they can get me the right set or my money back so i can get the correct ones... i cant wait any longer....
Only explanation is that u got the wrong rods, it is impossible to install pistons from the bottom. I have Manley LS rods and they fit through my 84.5mm cylinder with 2-3mm slack on each side.
OT: but your sleeves dont look very beefy after that drilling. I thougth you said they are a CLOSED deck sleeve? Did you add the cooling yourself?
man.. i think u should take that block back and get what u paid for and have them fix all that ****.. look at this pic of the aebs sleeves... u sleeve looks like **** man..

im not letting u put that **** into ur car cuz stupid edwards fucked things up.. take that **** back

i never notice it until that other day... ill go talk to jared about it... because it does look pretty crappy... 1100 for the block is alot of money and it should have been done right.... i knew i should have just shipped it out to someone who knows what there doing...

a few people on the board have had their blocks built by them, but i guess this is the first shitty one.. i'll go raise hell for u..

those are the wrong rods... get the correct ones..
why did they drill out the sleeve more than AEBS designed it?? looks like they just drilled w/ a shop drill almost.. very crappy quality..
who is building the engine for you? i would definatly look into getting it checked out after it done.. those extra holes do not look like they will work well when you get it all back together..

exactly.. why would they drill out holes when aebs designed it a certain way? i feel like this is my fault cuz i sent u there... err... **** them

who is doing it? a well known shop? are they authorized to do aebs sleeves?? i would be pissed.. there are plently of places to get a block sleeved.
