i plan on going with a custom turbo d series setup in the future. i would like to know how do i make a decision as to what turbo to actually choose. How do i know spool times and things of that nature. i dont want to make insane power but the most that i would want is something like 200, i dont really need something that can handle up to 500 hp because it will never see it in this car.

The BEST way to choose, is to simply ask the people who have similar setups, and drive their cars like your intending to drive yours.

IMO:

If you want a good turbo for a D series that will net around 200Hp, go with a simple T3. You can get them internally wastegated for around 600 bucks. Spool up will be very nice. Should start to spool around 2000, and have full boost around 3-3500.
