how to check chipped ecu's?

just bought an ecu and the guy said its a p28 equivalant. i know i can check the ecu by plugging it into a car; is there any other way? and what about the chipping?

umm well you can check to see if its chipped by looking at it! Now to check whats ON the chip you need a eprom reader/burner
