It hot today.. IAT running 120 F
First warm day with turbo... my intake tube runs right across the radiator/fan section... the intake temp got up to 140 F in traffic, 120 or so driving 40 mph.
I don't have thermal wrap or anything, wondering about possible ideas... I don't think wrapping the exhaust man is the answer, but I could wrap the intake...
I'll post a pic here later tonight.

i hooked one of the user inputs of the techedge wideband kit to my IAT wire on the ECU. then i hook up my palm to the techedge and have a conversion table that outputs the actual temp (not the volts). i also have the option of logging this way as well. kinda like hondata i guess but much cheaper.

Hey Sean, I decided to wrap all of my intercooler piping and that seems to work a lot better. Getting a heat sheild on top of the turbo would also help and if you extended the air filter piping into the fender well it will act as a cold air setup. Or you can try doing water injection like I am going to try next weekend most likely.

I used Hondata to take the readings. Today thie IAT hit a high of 131 WHILE DRIVING 60 mph. The water temp was 207F (Ouch)!
Something is wrong. The alum shield got so hot, I couldn't even touch it, the block stayed hot for like 4 hrs. I don't have an oil cooler at all, and I think my cam settings are letting fuel into the exhaust manifold, and it's burning. The Jet hot coating is starting to crack and peel off! I'll reset my cam timing this weekend to see if it helps... when I was at the dyno the A/F went from 10:1 to 12.5:1 after retarding the exhaust cam with no other changes.. Mmmmm
Pics:
I'd like to re-route the intake filter, but there's really no place for it to go, other than down...

I don't know the exact part name, but there is something that sprays water onto your intercooler. Ussually lowers the IAT quite a bit, however I have no experience with one...
Or else some people spray nitrous on their IC's...
Or maybe this is more of a mechanical problem? Sorry I just don't know...
Good luck.

I think people are missing the point... ther is so much under hood heat, the intake temp is too hot. When it's cold outside, I usually run 10 deg above outside at full throttle. I'm NOT overflowing the coolant bottle (Thank GOD) and ther is little if any blowby (I think).
It just sucks that the intake is RIGHT behind the radiator!
[add] and the intake tube gets so hot, you can't even keep you hand on it.

Could always wrap your manifold, downpipe and intercooler piping...and get a lower temp thermostat. There's also that CO2 intercooler sprayer out now...

I would try 3 things here:
1. It looks like you are running a civic single core radiator, a dual core would add a lot more cooling capicity, and they are inexpensive.
2. It seems like the aluminum shield is not letting the air flow past the intercooler, it is stopping it.
3. you intake is right behind the radiator which has just exchanged its heat to the air that is going in the intake.
ps. When I had a JRSC I would see 180-200 degree intake temps on a warm day.

Alot of good suggestions, also try getting the NX kit for the intercooler. It might cool it down a bit also and give you a lil push while it's at it.

Hydridsol, your water temp seems normap for that smaller radiator. My GSR's water temp in normal driving conditions hover around 197-201. We both have the F-max kit. As far as your AIT, while idle it may get to 120F or so. Interstate driving (cruise control @ 80mph) it stays around 70-80 depending on outside tempertature. City driving, depending on traffic is 110-120. After a quick run with boost its about 90-100. Using stock AIT sensor and AEM EMS.
