Im about to turbo my jdm built b16a with gsr tranny. I'm going for 500 hp and I'm gonna do everything to get to it. I would like to know if I could make more hp with 2.5" pipe coming from the turbo coming out the passenger side of the hood or the fender or use the normal exhaust going out the back. Numbers and dyno graphs would help if you possibly have any.

A hood or fender dump is going to get you pulled over every 10 minutes. For your goals, it will make a marginal improvement in power at best. If you've ever run an open downpipe car, you know that its not pleasant. I dont know why anyone would do this to any car that isn't a dedicated drag car...

You definetely need a dumptube, you dont want to dump it in the engine bay, you also make alot more power dumping it to atmosphere (outside the engine bay) vs routing it back into the exhaust.

And do I honestly need to use aluminum piping for the inter cooler? I feel like I could just use lightweight steel pipe and very few couplers

How do you plan on dealing with the corrosion inside the charge pipes if you use steel charge pipe.

Stainless works. I used aluminized in the past and that worked. It's heavy and aluminum is better anyway.

Just make a downpipe 3" with exhaust or open DP if you wanna smell the fumes all the time. Can also utilize vbands to easy removal of a section of pipe off the downpipe for track says etc

I've had an uppipe on my car a while and I just had to make a downpipe for it for class rules and honestly I like it. It's louder and the engine sounds better deeper with the longer pipe Vs out of the hood.

Also remember that aluminum conducts heat much better than any steel alloy. So to some extent the heat generated from the turbo compressing air will be lost to the atmosphere through the piping as well as the intercooler.

The other problem with a hood exit on a street car is if you're tuned rich you'll end up blowing this black carbon **** on your hood, trunk, windshield, and roof. It's damaging to paint and will eventually strain everything it touches.

My dude is pretty good he's 20 years in the game. He's built a 1200hp integra and could of broke the 1400hp mark with nitrous. But back to the exhaust.. I just want something that's gonna sound good and not super raspy but get the best flow. I really wanna do a sleeper build that's why I want it to sound nasty as hell but not scream im boosted and save it for whoever wants to race.

If you want it to be both subtle but also sound mean my vote would be a normal exhaust with a decent muffler for when you want to be quieter, then an e cutout for when you want to open it up and sound mean. I have an e cut out that's pretty much just open downpipe when open.

I have had steel pipes on my car for many years. No sign of corrosion or rust. They are def. heavier then aluminum, but I was able to make/modify them myself with a mig welder.

I feel an uppipe out the hood would only make a small noticable difference in spool time, and maybe a couple ponnies. But all I have ever had was a 3 inch turbo back system with the dump ran back into the down pipe. (It had no problem with spooling my precision 5858)
