B20vtecvillian callout thread!! R&R ls rod bolts in
I wana know how you replace rod bolts with the rods still in the motor
Without scratching the crank, head or block.
What tools
What punches
How high the car needs to be.
This seems almost impossible to do right

I'm not sure why you are so sure it can't be done. I know people personally that have changed bearings on the side of the road. I know people how have changed rod bolts with the engine in the car as well.

The question shouldn't be HOW it can be done but rather WHY?
Can it be done? Yes.
Should it be done? HELL NO!!!
Any time you you remove stock style rod bolts and install new ones (stock or aftermarket) you need to at minimum check the big journal for distortion. If aftermarket bolts are installed it typically distorts the rod assembly enough to need a hone to bring back to concentricity.

This reminds me of the lazy people that our ARPs in one at a time so they don't have to pull the head and replace the headgasket.

Someone mentioned this before, but apparently the TINY stock sized arp bolts are torqued to a few lbs more than the stock bolts. The larger bolts that typically come with the gsr rods and eagle rods are torqued to 40lbs+ and will distort a stock rod.
Its still stupid to do

Can it be done? yes. Should it be done?...eh not really
If you are replacing with stock OEM honda rod bolts then yes it can be done
If you are replacing with ARP or anything aftermarket...not a flying chance.
ARP specifically states the rods must be bolted together and then the bearing bore honed/reamed/bored back round and new bearings installed with proper clearance.
If you are going to do this with Honda parts I would at least take the time to make a guard to cover the crank journal s if you remove the lower rod caps, or prtect the caps before trying to hammer out the rod bolts. make sure you have a long magnet to reach the ones you blast up into the cylinders when you pound too hard.
You will have to get creative on installing the new bolts and ensuring they seat correctly on the rod and are torqued properly.
Do i suggest doing this? No. Take the head off and pull the pistons out the whole way and do it right. Sounds to me like you are itching to get your hands dirty anyway so just rebuild the motor yourself
