hondata tuned...Y do i hear detonation...
well about 5000 RPM i hear this sound like a screw rattleing around.. it sounds like detonation to me..
here is my air fuel chart... this was the worst one we had..figured i would post that one.. usually it was straight on the 12.

cant really see the chart. if the a/f ratio / spark / timing are all fine.. and its at the same RPM in the midrange... it very well could just be a boost related noise? Have someone run the car for you on the dyno and listen to where its coming from yourself, the wastegate makes crazy noises.

yea i had to angle the camera cause its old.. not good close ups. anyway its pretty much at 12 all the time no leaner than 12.5

Retard the timing and see if it goes away you can still get knock with perfect A/F with pourly set timing

the distrib is all the way retared.. i have cams so that through the timing off little bit.. its all the way retarded and still only got to about 12degrees.. i had the tuner double check it too

Your cams shouldn't be throwing your timing off that much. Maybe you've slipped a tooth on accident. Have you checked your cam->crank timing.

Set your ignition timing correctly. I've known a few fairly bright people to outsmart themselves and accidentally advance their timing at the dizzy when meaning to retard. Besides, the timing values for your Hondata are thrown off when tou mess with the ignition timing. That's no way to tune, IMO.
I'm with Speed PHreak, smoke everything over in the ignition/mechanical timing area.

Haha, no, but I know people who know you.
Is this car familiar? I run open downpipe, if I've been within a block of you, you'd have noticed it.

Yeah why would you retard timing with the distributor if you have hondata like someone else said,,when you retard timing using the distributor it throws everything else off. go back set your timing to stock, and retune from there..do it rite.

no timing mark. well i made one its gotta be close used a dial indicator for TDC and marked the flywheel.. put a light on it and it looked to be at 12degrees.. so thats the value we put on the hondata. we tried to get it to 16degrees but the distrib didnt travel far enough due to my cam profile.

if you arent sure if the timing is set correctly, use the horizontal marks on the cam gears and a timing light with a dial to double check it.

Re: hondata tuned...Y do i hear detonation... (VaporTrail)
The distributor on H-series is on the exhaust cam
as opposed to B-series ..on the intake cam.
I was thinking of something, but B-series & H adv or retard the same direction, correct ?

Re: hondata tuned...Y do i hear detonation... (Quick 200k Mile Motor)
just a lil something boosted hybrid posted... very good info...
§ There is a difference between static and dynamic timing. Your static timing is your base timing at the distributer. You can alter this, but you want to keep it at the stock setting which is either 14 or 16 degrees depending on the engine. Your dynamic timing is something that you cannot change unless you have a standalone, or a ignition tuning device. The dynamic timing is what you alter with the .5 degree per pound of boost theory. 32 degrees total advance is what the total ecu runs the engines at. You are taking .5 degrees retard per pound of boost subtracted from the dynamic timing, or total advance. –boosted hybrid-
not sure why u retarded your timing at the dist, when you have hondata...........................................

Re: hondata tuned...Y do i hear detonation... (GOLDBERG)
hmmm very intresting.. looks like im going to move my dissy to 16deg, currently its set to 14deg... time to retune...
i always though if you had your timing in honda and the dizzy synced it did't make much of a difference inregards to preformace as long as you added the extra igintion via hondata... maybe i was wrong... 16deg from the dizzy here i come..
Regards James
