hondata or tranny?
i need some opinions here. I have a greddy powered sohc Y8 with stock internals. One slight problem: My car is an automatic. should i get hondata first to make the engine more reliable or should i beef up my tranny first?
What are you running for fuel management right now?
BTW, where in SA are you from anyways?

Yeah, hondata doesnt mix with the automatics.
Not to dampen your spirits anymore, but goodluck with the auto tranny...
I was in the same boat, ready to boost, debating for almost 2 years whether to do so, but after all the horror stories i've heard, i'm not even going to mess with it.
The valve bodies of the honda auto are the weakest link, and not a company that i know of makes parts to beef em up.
you can upgrade the torque converter and other parts as much as you want, but its like like a weak link in a chain. it only takes one part to make the whole tranny fail.
Peace, and goodluck
Just boost in moderation

yeah, i was planning to use the 2b. so the 2b would work in my case?
But plan for a tranny swap later too. My friend's prelude's tranny started to give out after about 6 months after being turbo'd, so he got a tranny swap.
Damn I know a lot of Mike Rodriguez's.
yadont expect to take the auto trans to the limit. it wont be able to handle it. honda auto trans and turbo just doesnt mix. there are alot of weak parts on the auto trans. but if the auto trans does give out.. its not like a honda trans is expensive.
OT: i had a valve body give out on my 2000 BMW 323 and it cost $1500 just to fix part of the problem... thats when I started hating european cars..

5psi? Damn, what's the point of having a turbo then on your auto.. You are not even making 150hp at the wheel with that greddy kit. 7-9 psi is fine put I don't even think your greddy slush box will allow you to boost that high without throwing some kind of code. But off the subject, how will know if your transmittion is starting to slip for an automatic?
Any amount of boost will be pushing it. Take that for what it is worth, from someone who is boosting on an auto. Boost involves risk, and boosting on an auto involves even more risk.

Anyway, you'll know if your tranny is slipping. If it slips out of a gear once and awhile, or doesnt even go into certain gears. Also, if your revs jump inbetween shifts too. Thats when you better start worrying.
Peace
