Default Hondata and Romulator

Has anyone managed to get this to work. I get a connection error every time with s200 (formerly stage 4). I need some help.

I have used the built in serial port as well as the serial on USB adapter with no luck. I configured the serial ports to 115.2 kbaud according to Transtronic's instructions. I emailed Hondata. They will get back to me soon, I hope. In the mean time, can someone help me out?

Thank you

Have you verified the serial port is working or active? Try checking out the BIOS settings first. You can also easily verify it by pluging in a serial mouse to the port.

Both serial ports work. The built in one on the laptop and the USB to serial adapter. I verified this with the datalogging with Hondalogger. Maybe I need more RAM or a faster processor. Right now I have 233mHz and 64 Megabytes. The only thing running on the laptop is Hondata. I guess I could have a bad Romulator.

Thanks for the replies.

I am getting the same error as well. Its annoying, and making my tuning sessions take alot longer than they should. I am going to give hondata a call, and try to get an answer out of them. The first romulator that they sent me was actually bad. This second one doesnt connect. Third time is a charm, hopefully i can get something worked out.

I found out a few things re: the romulator. If you are using an operating system other than Windows 2000 or XP, then chances are that you will never connect with the Romulator. I tried and tried with Win 98 without success. I actually had to buy a new laptop with more processing power, RAM, and harddrive space to load Win 2000. Sucks for me .

I hope this helps.

What windows are you using to have this work? I am running 98, which would explain why it wont connect. I get to call and get another registration id...yah!

the biggest problem im having is with the romulator from xtronics..

its seems that the romeditor or xtronics programmer hates windows 2000 or something is wrong withe the laptop connectivity.

so i think whomever said that if you do't have win2k or xp you're screwed, i think that's not correct... it looks like not all laptops are equal, and some may have have been built a little out of spec for performance or some crap.

I never said anyone was "screwed". I called Hondata and was told that the Windows 98 platform was having problems. I was also told that the romulator runs on Win 2000 and Win XP reliably. Transtronics says that Win 2000 is fine with their pocket programmer and the romulator. They do not support Windows ME, so if you have that OS then it could be a problem.

If anyone has run the program successfully on Win 98 please, then post here.

What problems are you (see2k) having with Windows 2000? Post it here and someone may be able to help you solve the problem.

90% of Hondata's problems are xtronics related.

A real time programming setup integrated with their existing datalogging protocol isn't difficult at the level of technology they already have mastered. With the on-board S100/S200 setup, they should have integrated that in with their upgrade.

But wtf do I know... yes, xtronics is a valid issue, but Hondata is wildly successful and profitable business despite what I claim/think they should do. Nice product.

This is useful info...I haven't bought a laptop yet and I'm still saving for Hondata. Now I know I need decent power and Win2000 Oper system.

If everyone is having the same problem with win98, don't you think a patch would be in order? I'm not a computer whiz or anything so I could be way off base.

I've been using an IBM StinkPad pentium classic 166Mhz with 80MB memory and 2GB HD without any problems. I've used it with Win98 2nd edition when I was running stage4 and v2.5. I later upgraded the OS to Win2K and Hondata to S200 with V3 without any issues. V3 does allow you to burn the chip directly from Romeditor to the pocket programmer without using the Xtronics program. Datalogging has never been an issue with either OS. However, I didn't try Win98 with v3, because I've already upgraded the OS prior to upgrading to S200.

The romulator works fine with windows 2000. There must be something else that is causing you not to connect. Check your ports to make sure you have them set up properly. I'm sure it's something simple!

I used my romulator with WinXP and it runs just fine. If you upgraded from a StageX you may need to cut J12 on the ECU main board.

I now have the Romulator working properly and it is sweet...

Some facts that I have personal experience with regarding my installation.

1. You need a Windows OS that is Win 2000 or Win XP!

2. When you first downloaded the "whole ROM", I think that you need to have
the key in the 2 position.

3. After downloading the "whole ROM", I had to turn the key to the off position and
then turn it back to the 2 position. I only have to do this when I want to
download the whole ROM. If I turn the car off and come back to the car with
the romulator still in the ECU socket and connected to the laptop, then I need
only start the car.

I experimented with changing the idle speed and the car responds quickly to match the speed I commanded of it. The car seems to run smoother off of the laptop/emulator than it does off of the Eproms that I burn.

Cliff's notes: The Romulator and Autotune work well and will idle you like stock.

Thank You Hondata and Arturo for all of your help.
