Hondata Rev Limit in our turbo cars as security system!
Hey all I was thinking is it possible to use your hondata setup as a type of security for your car.
Ie when ever you leave your car for parking, quicky press the red button a few times and dynamicly set the map rpm down to lets say 900rpm, so the car is almost undrivable. Of crouse if someone knows u have a hondata this defeats the purpose.. but it would also be good to lower your total rpm for like when a body shop works on your car.. or u have to leave it in someone’s hands ( to park or what not )
Or is there a minimum maximum RPM limit you can set ?
Maybe Doug should include these changes in version 3 of rom edit ;-) grin

my friend uses the "AC" button on his dashboard as a security feature. When he leaves the car, he makes sure that the "AC" button is in the off position. With it being in the off position, the engine gets no power at all when someone tries to start the car. Of course, once the car is started, you can push the AC button all you like, and the car will run like normal

how was that wired up ?
sounds like a small project worth doing also.. along with the super low rev limit setting... with hondata if its possible.. so even if the ***** can start the car.. they won't be able to drive it very fast !!! perfect for making lots of attention.. and also time for someone 2 notice... also stops ppl from ova reving your engine if parking people move your car for you !

yep. but your rev limited idea is a really good idea. could be a "profitable" idea too if it didn't need the use of a hondata..

yeah... eheh i would like 2 see a lower life scum car person drive my car at 900rpm !! u could run faster than the car !!!
or push it faster !! eheh and they would't have any idea how to fix the car ! its not like u can rip out more wires.. to solve the problem ( like car stealing ppl normaly do )

It is a good idea..... however, I believe when I was reading the Hondata manual it states that you can not lower the revlimit lower then 5000rpms.
Dont quote me on this, but I am pretty sure you can not go lower then 5000rpms.
I tried to go lower once when I was taking it to the dealership and I could not get it lower then 5000rpms.

Re: Hondata Rev Limit in our turbo cars as security system! (dustin)
Could just plug a stock ecu in instead of your hondata modified ecu.
setting a rev limit could work, but that would mean carrying a laptop with you wherever you go & having to setup your car everytime you park & whenever you started to drive off. but most people are too lazy to even carry around a removable car stereo faceplate so carrying a laptop would be even more unreasonable. a better idea would be just to take th entire ecu with you when you park in a shady neighborhood. smaller than a laptop & even more effective.

The idea of a super low rev limit sounds like a great idea. I don't see why Hondata couldn't do it if they allowed it.

Re: Hondata Rev Limit in our turbo cars as security system! (DarksideDC4)
i emailed Doug at hondata.. about this... i wonder what his reply will be...
im sure u could do it with the red button is hondata allowed it somehow..saves luggin around a laptop or ECU
also unpluging the ecu all the time.. will sooner or later stuff up the wires.. or conectors... humm so yeah thats bad.....
go the red button.. if it can work
(james cross's his fingers wishin it does and will work)

My ignition cuts out at any rpm. The problem would be its adjusted by pots and dip switches. If you want it drivable and not beaten up its inconvenient, but it'd work.
If you want theft protection, pull the plug wire that runs from the coil to the distributor.

Well I do a few things to help make my car unstealable when i feel that im parking it in an unsafe area...I won't say all of them but here are some ways to stop people from taking your car...
-Make a fuel pump kill switch.
-Take your ECU with you
-Unplug your pgmfi plug and leave it sorta plugged in so you can't tell it's off
-Switch your Spark plug wires.
-Switch map and tps sensor plugs
-If your REALLY scared, open the distributor real quick, pull your rotor and stick it in your pocket.
-Get battery cord with a normal battery terminal, and run it up to your battery. Take the real one and hide it down in your engine bay. The car get's no power, but it looks plugged in.
-MSD Soft touch rev-limiter...1000rpm pill..
-There are a bunch more, but those are my little secrets.
