Default hondata probs. please help.

Ok i have totally installed the hondata 3b on my 2000civic si using a p28 ecu and the car started fine. however i can not retreive the codes from my ecu, the check engine light comes on for about 2 secs then goes out for a quick sec and then stays on. Any ideas on whats going on here? how can i quickly fix this?

Sorry arturbo. thanks man i was out side trying ****. ok..... with the rom in the light on the hondatabox is solid red. and the check engine light is on all the time and shows no codes. so i pulled the rom and the red light started to blink on the hondatabox. then i even tried to cut the jumper to return my ecu to stock and it ran the car fine with no check engine lights. so the ecu must be good. and if the light on the box blinks when i pull the chip then it sounds like its all hooked up right. thanks for comenting art. i m thinking the chip is bad or not burned. if you put a new chip with no program on it then what will the car do? i dont have one but would it do as my car is doing? thanks again

if you put in a chip in there with no program it will do just what you described. It is running off the back up processor and the CEL will stay one. I had the same problem because I thought I had burned the chip but I hadnt. I burnt it and it started right up. Hope that helps...

if the hondata light is on constant then the rom should be good.

check the error code the old fashioned way by jumping the service connector.

dude, are you there? you home? can you call me? i'll try and help ya.
As Art said, if you get a solid light on the hondata then the ROM chip really must be good. If you cut your jumper and you can start your car without a CEL then your ecu is probably good. If you get a check engine light with the hondata ROM but your hondata box is solid then you probably have a poorly soldered modification to your ecu!

ok heres the deal so far its not good yet. but were getting there i hope as of now i have cspeed sending another romchip so i can give it a try. ok i read the a post on clubsi about using a scantool to check why my enging light is on (which i will get from work tomorrow to check out why my car is giving me a check engine light "mil" as it will not produce any codes when the plug is tested/jumped) so I wanted to see if i just had a real bad base map. so i started the car out side of the garage. once again the check engine light is on and thing exhaust is putting out more smoke then a tug boat. and its alll fuel. i all heard the bov as i pulled the car out of the garage. this is totally crazy to me but when i rev the car to 3000rpm or higher i can hear the bov clear as day and this is with the car sitting still. no load. It has never done this before. I also noticed that my boost gauge is reading at neg3 and not at neg18to-21. i actually made 3psi of boost just punching the gas as the car idled. so somthing is really wrong here. were guessing the chip. i also cut the car of and then pulled the jump to return the ecu to stock and then started the car. it idled a little rough because of the dsm injectors but not hardly any smoke and the vac was back to normal and there was no bov when i punched the gas. any ideas guys? this is a great learning experance for me. so i need all the help i can get here. If the chip is infact good and the ecu is good. then what could be left that is causing the car to run in limp mode? I do have a obd2 to obd1 harness but if it was bad in any way in sure it would throw a code when the jumper was cut and the ecu was stock right? thanks for the help keep it coming. im gonna give the scantool thing a try tomorrow. any other ideas?
heres the link to clubsi if you would like to compare info with otehr hondata guys and help me out. thanks so much!!

first off, if the harness were bad, you would probably not be able to start your car with the ecu set to stock without a CEL coming on. So, as I had told you, that part is ok. With the hondata unit, if the ROM is ok and without errors, the hondata light will stay solid (as your's does). The problem herein lies with the ROM code on your chip in that your ecu does not read it as a valid set of maps (or some other set of bad code). This error happens when the chip is burned for the wrong ecu type! Fortunately, you will probably be ok once someone burns you a chip appropriate for your ecu. If the new chip they burn is not working I suggest you send the entire setup to someone who can test it as a unit in another car!
