Default Honda engines and boost

is it less attractive to NA tuners that people tune honda engines to be forced induction compared to subaru wrx, evolution, and such?

The other day i read it on importlounge people were bashing honda's with forced induction saying they were not meant to be turboed.
what do you guys think? I need opinions. Seriously I think I don't have anything against NA tuning.

People think because the cars, Hondas, didnt come turboed that they are not meant to be turboed. Its BS if you ask me...

Well if thats the case then their cars are not meant to go above 10psi either.

Hondas get better results than all other unibodys that came turbo charged. Im sure that pissed a few people off. the way they move for their displacement is very impressive.even the fastest 2jz powered supra isnt as fast as the fastest b18 powered honda civic. hmmm, maybe it was meant to be turbocharged.

I'd rather boost a honda then purchase any of these overpriced, uglier-than-hell factory turbo cars.

haha yeah but on the street my buddies 300zx will crush my *** ... super cars will ways make more USABLE power period (top speed is much much much higher as well and when it can go sideways over 100 mph on street tires thats sick) but i agree my winter/daily tsi awd talon is boosted to 20 psi and cant touch my honda but it also weigh's 2 times the amount of my hatch but the honda is more fun kinda like a go kart.

If you think about it, they weren't MEANT to be turbocharged. Honda would have done it if they were, but they didnt feel they needed too. Now thats like saying your Originally red car wasn't MEANT to be painted black, but you can still do it. Honestly these are probably just the complaints of people who dont know what they're talking about or are to lazy to think about it.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Boostage &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Hondas get better results than all other unibodys that came turbo charged. Remember the importance of the power to weight ratio when you say something like this. When one talks of a Honda not meant to being turbo charged they mean the engine, i can't turbo charge the shell. So if you could or did fit a 2JZ-GTE motor into a car of similar weight as a B18 powered civic, well...any motor that can break a 1000hp on its stock block is probably going to rape the B18, but then its a matter of displacement and its not an equal comparison. Still..notthing quite like beating a factory sports car with a civic, hehe.

i completely agree about going with forced induction. I'd rather push my ways to finding out about my car's limit than riding a stock turbo'ed car. thanks for the feedbacks. time to save up for the project.

you would have to define "meant to be turboed".

just because an automotive factory bolts a turbo on one of their n/a motors, doesn't mean that it's "meant to be turboed".

looking at just the performance aspects of it, the optimal turbo head design is quite different from the optimal all-motor head design.

i saw a post the other day on another forum that talked about how porsche designed 911 turbo heads vs. 911 n/a heads... the claim was that the valve sizes were similar, but the port design/total port volume differed wrt better exhaust flow on the turboed heads... to the point that porsche even used the same size valves for both intake and exhaust on some of their dedicated turbo race cars.

some of that is known as exhaust/intake ratios, expressed as a percentage... so you can change camshafts, get lower c.r. pistons, etc., but in general an all-motor head should not work as well as a head that's been designed/heavily modded for turbo use.

The great thing about Honda's is not that they were meant to be turboed or sports cars or whatever, it's how well they work turboed or as a sports cars. Honda never designed it's engines to be modular and just swap into other cars either, but with a relatively small amount of research, it was discovered that with very little trouble engine swaps could be performed. With a little research and some engineering it was discovered that Honda motors, originally intended to be N/A work quite well with forced induction.
An example: I was never overly impressed with VTEC until I drove in a turboed VTEC car. With forced induction, VTEC can make all the difference, whereas, naturally aspirated it's like running a hot cam imo.

if you didn't know...hondas are hated on by domestics and imports i.e. Dsm, subaru, probably even hyundai! I used to frequent dsm boards all the time and I can tell you why...its because there are a lot of ricey hondas out there...most have never seen a 300-400+ whp honda on the street...

When I had my dsm I had no love for hondas either...no honda I ever encountered could touch that car, I still haven't really but atleast now I know they are out there...

What I'm saying is they are ignorant because they just don't know any better...they will hopefully run into one of the fast hondas soon...

Honda haters suck...but I guess you can blame the hate on all the riced out ones running around out there.

Maybe some DSM guys get pissed because alot of times we put down more power at 7psi, then they do at 15.

Oh, I wonder if the same people hate on boosted mustangs, and other aftermarket boosted cars. Boosting a honda is the best way(in my opinion), to make a honda respectably fast.

Or maybe their pissed because you are incessantly worried about how much power you can make at a low boost level, when it doesn't matter. At all.

Considering they can make 500+ whp on a stock block, I'm sure they will be ok.

why not make one post???

anyways, yeah, the riced out cars make them hate us. the riced out hondas make me feel embarrassed. but then again, when someone sees me, theyll think im another ricer and try to race me. since my car is ssbp with cf hood, theyll pick on me

I had a feeling that something like this was going to come up, even though it wasn't my point at all. I'm not worried about how much power I make for a low boost level.

If I had my choice I wouldn't run 7psi, but money makes that decision for now.
