i have a ls/vtec engine in my civic, im shooting for around 450whp using a t3 turbo manifold so i was looking @ a holset hx/hy35 but have recently found a hx40 locally for cheap and ws wandering if it would b too big for my goals.

That turbo is way too big for 450WHP if that's what you plan on staying.

I read where it said it spooled to 20psi around 4000rpm, didn't sound too lazy. What hp range would u say this turbo is for? My only worry with my engine is stock sleeves which Is why I was thinkin around 450whp

The 56mm 8 blade doesnt flow 72 lb/min

Honestly a HX35 7 blade will be a much nicer combination for a street car. But these turbo's have divided T3 housings, so your manifold will have to be divided as well.

Be careful with Holsets off Ebay - info and specs are often wrong and there are plenty of Chinese knockoffs around !!

Didn't get that info from ebay but I will stay away from ebay when buying turbo's lol. Looks like I should stick with a hx35 but I have also read that even though the turbo is divided it works well with an undivided manifold is this true?

If you want a quicker spooling HY35 I have a mint one for sale. I've read it will support 450whp also. Also I live right below you in sc.

+1 ^^^^^^^^ ??

i've heard the same, that you can run a twin scroll turbo on an open t3/t4 manifold with no problems?...

Don't be afraid of getting a divided turbo without having a divided manifold. Just use a dremel tool and sharpen the divider like you would a port in a head and it will flow just fine. I did this to my car and seen good results. It would start building boost around 4k and be at 9 psi at 5k. Now after the porting it is at 7 psi at 4k! Definitely worth the effort!

be VERY careful if you decide to do this.. stress cracks could develop on the interior of the flange and could easily be made worse by additional heat from the exhaust gases, causing exhaust leaks and even metal fatique

I just ported the divider enough to sharpen the edge. I made very sure to not go far down into the housing. I also got it coated at Thermal Tech after I did the work! That also is a great thing to do is heat coating!

I've got a beauty one of these (HY35) sitting right now to go on a 2.4 I'm putting together. I've got some medium sized Brian Crower Stage 3 cams for it (that are small by Honda standards I think). I'm hoping to be in the range of having boost on the two step at around 3k RPMs. Does anyone think that's feasible?

The converter I'm running stalls at about 2,800 with the tired old 150k mile motor in it, so I figure if I can build a little boost on the 2-step that should definitely push into the low 3,000s range for the launch.

HY35 ftw?

I'm not sure how the 2step works with automatic. I know I've seen it done. I bet that hy35 is going to spool up SUPER fast for u!
