Holset HX40 help
Not all of the HX40W turbos....I have one now that has a divided T3 inlet. Remember these are diesel turbos so there are many vocations (applications) that these engines are in....the turbos are also as various in features.
Still, it is good to get this information

When I was finding parts for my holset hx35, I was pretty well hooked up with factory parts. When I tried to adapt my holset downpipe to a t3 is when I had problems. I ended up getting a flange from this site and had to have a tiny bit of the outside edge machined off. Worked perfect after that was done.

Man… trial user… points… what’s up with all that, why do I get the impression that if I spent any real time here I’d get thrown out anyway?
I know that this thread was from about a month ago, but since it doesn’t look like it was completely resolved I’ll add what I know…

Its an odd size. its a little too big for the 3" flange.. The OD of the flange is 4". These turbos are floating around used but I have yet to see the downpipe parts

I can get the clamps through a place that makes school bus exhausts that I’ve got a business account with… I can’t check with them till Monday, but assuming their price hasn’t changed my cost would be just under $30+shipping to you. I have not found a source for the flange side (and asking about it on another list led me here, I’ll probably end up cutting my own, actually, I may soon have a lathe…)
Just curious, what are you using an HX40 for? What turbine housing does yours have?

I found out that just about the only place you're gonna be able to find one if off of a junk vehicle that it came on, or ordering it from a Holset dealer. You may be able to get something from one of the aftermarket diesel truck shops, online or otherwise.</TD></TR></TABLE>
2 things here… it seems that some of you are confusing the HX35, HX40 and H1E with the “W” versions that use a completely different exhaust housing and center section. Overblown…, the flange that you’re describing sounds a lot like the one used on the HX40 and the largest H1E’s used on the Cummins 6CT (8.3L inline 6 Cummins, usually used in Freightliners, I’ve got one out of a Freightliner wrecker).
Second… the Holset/cummins flanges are total oddballs… you can’t just find a normal v-band that is the right outside diameter and use it. Those turbos got flanges that are only half the depth of the standard V-band flange. If you got one that was the right diameter and tried to tighten it down you’d find that the outside lip of the clamp was bottomed in the groove around the flange and that the flange isn’t actually pulled tight/sealed.

Actually, the ones that we’re looking at originally date back to some of the later H1E’s that I believe were specifically designed for Cummins and were spec’ed in inches… which doesn’t really help much because they still had oddness like 4.03” nominal outside dimension for the flange.

Pikas, Todd... Pikas has a good line on the Holsets... nice to see others do, too

back from the dead but does any have a compressor map for the hx40, hx40z ? A local turbo dealer claims he has dynod one on a 2 liter and made 560whp. Is it true that its comparable to a t67, a bit smaller but close. Can anyone confirm this?
and lastly who is running these turbos on their 1.8-2.0 hondas and making serious power.

the holsets are great turbos. the 70% efficiency island of an hx35 is the size of a t04b compressor map.
hx40's will support 700whp or so if iremember correctly. I might run one on my build. not sure yet
