Default Help with turbo

This was included with a car I just bought. Can you identify it & tell me the best way to make sure it's in working order.

Just looks like an older garret to me..maybe off a diesel..Is there any play in the shaft? At the least take it all apart and clean it up and do a rebuild on it.

Looks like an older SAAB turbocharger with a 5 bolt ford style housing. Good to about 200whp maximum. D-series guys love them, but may not be worth rebuilding if its in bad shape.

When you get free stuff, there's a reason why no one bothered to care and given with a car.

Looks like an old Volvo t3 to me off of a 240 turbo, the exhaust manifold flange is correct for that. Could be Saab too, I'm not familiar with those. If it Volvo, it's in nasty shape. Folks have made good power on them in the Volvo world- don't know about Hondas. Also, good power for those guys is a whole different thing than for the Honda world.

Probably maxes out in the 200-220 range but I would recommend asking more about it over at www.turbobricks.com, they are a great Volvo performance community that will help you at much more than what most here can offer.
