help tial waste gate problems
i just installed my old turbo kit on a friends car which i have a boost controller and he doesnt. the wastegate is a 38 mm with a 10 lbs spring. i hooked a vaccum line from the turbo to the wastegate and no mater which on i put it on, either the top or side, it will not boost to ten. from what i remember without a boost controller the line should be connected on the side right?
if there is a diagram some one knows of to hook up would be nice thx

does he have a front mount? seeing as your reading before the ic, you may be seeing a pressure drop, how much boost can you build with it? try a line off the intake manifold.

your right, you hook up the side port to the turbo and leave the top port to vent to the atmosphere or you can hook it up with a boost controller.
as far as the boosting problem...it sounds like its leaking, check the intercooler and charge pipes along with the boost gauge tubing and pressure source. if your still not holding 10 psi the spring may be messed up (cracked, a coil broke off, or just unsprung) or check the diaphram and the valve and gasket seal, you can check it with a air pump.

Re: help tial waste gate problems (Syner-G-Racing)
he has a one series b16 so it only has one place for me to tap which was the top of the factory FPR. he's going to order the GE vaccum box which ill then hook it up to the brake booster vaccum. i just tee'ed the vaccum to his fmu, boost gauge, factory FPR, and BOV....lol if this is the problem can some one explain why that would effect the WG if its connected straight to the turbo. id understand if there was a boost controller but hey hope this GE thing works.

How do you check it with an air pump. I'm having the same problem.

if you have a dump tube bolt it to the bottom flange and wrap the air nozzle with tape or rubber to form some what of a seal in the dump tube and blow. if you have a gauge on the air hose you shouldnt feel it dump air until the set spring pressure normaly 7psi on the standard wastegates. you get the idea.

I highly recommend the golden eagle vacuum manifold. it works great and realy cleans up the engine bay. especialy when get all those t's going on in there.
