Default Help, need engine clarification and limits

I've been searching for a while, I'm an admitted Honda NEWB.

Have a few questions...

1. What are the engine codes for the non-vtec's that came in 92-00 civics? Are they all the same?

2. I'm trying to build a quick daily, and I have a VERY good tuner in my area. If I want the best combination of high MPG off-boost cruising, and high RPM FI power, does it make sense to boost a non-vtec?

3. Is the SOHC vtec d16 in the Si that much better to start of with than a non-vtec?

My goals are to have a well tuned car that doesn't have any daily driveability issues, gets ~35mpg off boost, and can still run a high 12/low 13 quartermile. It will be an EG hatch with full interior, A/C, and P/S if I can rig it, so figure about 2,250 lbs (?).

Sorry if these questions have been covered. I've been searching forever for SOHC turbo info, and it's hard to find relelvant info for my personal plans. I'd like to base this all around a bone stock SOHC car. At the moment, I'm only willing to throw ARP head studs in it. How much does that limit me?

Thanks a million!

1. D15b7, D15b8, D16y7
2.I get 35 city/40 highway mpg, it's all about the tuning. I have a wideband and laptop that live in my car though so I pretty much tune everyday. 30-35 mpg isn't out of the question.
3. Stock for stock? It's certainly better than a D15 but the bottom end which is the limiting factor is the same as the D16y7.

Screw headstuds just tune it right and you'll be fine, your goals are attainable.

Thanks. I just spend about 4 hours reading threads on hmt.com. You can definitely build your own kit for cheap if you can weld.

Seeing the GReddy kits for $1500, it's hard for me to imagine being able to make my own kit with quality pieces (not ebay crap) for much less than that.

Good manifold that keeps A/C ~$300
Tial Wastegate - $200
Genuine Garret T3/4 turbo from reputable shop - $600
Oil lines - $100
Materials for downpipe/charge pipes - $200

That's about $1400 right there with no fuel management

There are corners to cut, but I'm not sure I want to cut them.
