Default Help me settle disagreement......(hondata)

Ok, so my friend (the self proclaimed turbo expert hehe) and me are in a discussion about The Hondata system and basically im arguing that it will make your car behave as a factory tuned turbo, no need to "hide" boost etc etc.

just new ecu, hondata, injectors and away you go.

Hes arguing that you'll need a GM 3 bar map sensor, becuase if my stock sensor sees over 13lbs of boost it will spike and possibly damage the sensor and give the sensor incorrect readings.

i was always under the impression that the point of hondata is that so you dont have to "hide" the boost from the ECU, it knows its there, and therefor a Stock MAP will work...

so my question:
Do you need to upgrade the MAP when going Hondata. Is it possible to "spike" a map sensor (in his words)

or

do you simply keep the stock MAP, no missing link, no 3bar nothing......

you need gm 3 bar map, for boosting over 11lbs...and you need resistor box for peak and hold injectors, same with aem

you have the option to use either map sensor. in order for the ecu to provide correct fueling for boost levels over ~12 psi you have to use a 3 bar sensor. I don't think running higher boost will hurt the sensor but the voltage that the sensor outputs won't change above~12psi

You only need to upgrade the Map sensor if you are boosting above 13 psi. The reason for that is because Stock map sensor were not meant/designed to read pressure that high. so you need to get another sensor that can read higher. stock works up to 13 psi, and some people have argued it can go higher, but it is safe to upgrade when you get to 13 psi.

You are not hiding the boost, you are allowing the ecu to be able to read the pressure with the map sensor.

I was just on the phone with AEM this mornning, they told me 12psi is fine on a stock map sensor, "my 2 cents"

OEM Honda sensor is a 2 bar but taking it past 11psi is like driving a bulldozer on a frozen lake after the first freeze.

1bar = 0psi
2bar = 14.5psi
3bar = 29psi

uhm..just my $1000....I blew my motor because i boosted over 12psi on the stock map sensor and the hondata system went haywire and probably went lean and detonated.

Do NOT use the stock map sensor anything over 11psi.

I boost 12psi on a stock map sensor daily and have boosted 14.5-15psi also without a problem. Its a 2bar sensor so it should read 14.7psi (at the limits) although i know some people have problems...but i havent.

thanks,

OK just logic here but 2 bar map sensor will see just that. 2 bars. maybe a little bit less because the factory 1 bar map sensor will only see 11 psi. So why not just go all out and get the 3 bar? Its like 80 bucks from hondata...

the factory MAP sensor is a 2bar. The 3bar and the 2bar still use 0-5 volts...so unless you have a standalone, ie hondata or aem EMS, you are going to mess up your fuel maps. The honda ECU was designed to use a 2bar sensor..not 3.

2bar = 14.5psi
atmospeheric pressure = 14.7psi

Everybody confuses those two!

One more: 1kg/cm(2) = 14.22psi

um. I thought thats what we were talking about here? Hondata? That was the original question of the thread. I disagree. Well for my car anyways. I had a 2 bar map sensor for a minute...only for about a week until i got my 3 bar. It let me see more than 11 psi of boost. THe factory one did not.

Many people have taken OEM Honda map sensors past 11psi with success but the sensor isn't very reliable after 11psi.

No problemo! Josh Madison's convert program is an excellent source for number crunching and conversions.
