HELP ME!!! 2 Destroyed LS blocks WHY!!!!????
ALright so I do an ls/vtec, and the first time the gasket blows...take out the bolts to find this..
Got a new block...put it in 2 hours later gasket goes again...and I pull it out and find about 3 bolts with the same ****, pieces of the block on the bolt. This is RIDICULOUS! It was torqued down in sequence as the Helms say to 63ft lbs...what could be causing this...does anyone know.???

Use ARP Studs. Use Moly Lube on the end of the thread that goes into the block.
I've seen a lot of heads lift up during boost from reusing old head bolts which causes gaskets to blow out.

did you re-use the head bolt ?
head bolts streches after they're taken out the first time....use an ARP studs
don't re-use a used head bolts...

Hmm I hope thats not a LS head bolt. It would be too long/short.
EDIT: This happened to me with d16y7/si head. I used shorter bolts (If I remember correctly) and it stripped like that.

oooh, I have no idea why the botls tripped the block, but as a suggestion, I wouldn;t use a usedd bolts since they streched after being taken out the first time...
did you use any oil or moly lube on the threaded part ?

Don't use B16 head bolts...they seem to be too short from my experience. Get GSR head bolts and you shouldn't strip the threads anymore.

ls/b16 head bolts/studs are the same length...meaning TOO SHORT, not enough is threading into the block causing it to strip, use B18C bolts or studs....

I have built 3 or 4 previous ls/vtec using b16 bolts. The oldest one being a year and a half old...BEAT on everyday and somethign like this has never happend.

Were these LS blocks previously "Beaten" on? I have a friend with a GSR turbo that beat his motor a lot. Blew a headgasket and then when he tried to put in new studs they would not thread in straight. He had it retapped and still the same problem. It would go in then it would just strip. The block became a peice of junk because it went through a lot of stress from all the hard shifting and I guess that weakened the area around the threads in the block.

I' have to second using ARP headSTUDS. You get alot more contact area with a stud, vs. a bolt. reusing a stud is also MUCH better than reusing a bolt, but still not too hot.
