Default Help identifing turbo spools!!!

Can any one provide me some info on what the diffrence is between the various turbos? ie. TD04, TD05 T25 ect.

Im looking to get all of the componets together for a custom setup... well i went to the junkyard and they have a spool for 200bucks but the guy is not sure which one it is i told him i needed a td04 or td05 but says that it may be a t25...
i have a 4th gen hatch D15 and i want to go ahead and get use to the turbo on this setup before i swap the engine sometime within the next 9months or so... so i dont mind using this engine as a tester... im leaning towards the TD05 because from the research that ive been doing it seems like the td04 would not give me what im looking for when i swap the jdm b16... so can anyone tell me what the diffrence between the TD04/05 and the t25? and how can one identify diffrent turbos by just looking @ them? oh and do you guys think that 200 bucks is too much for a spool?
any help is greatly appriceated

you need a little help on your lingo! spool is refferd to the act of spooling. or the turbo spinning. what you are talking about is the compressor housing. well if i am wrong just correct me.

A TD04 is a fairly small turbo
A TD05 is a decent sized turbo for your use (Might be too large for the D15)
A T25 is the turbo that majority of people use for thier "junkyard turbo kits" like you are doing. It comes off of the Mitsubishi Eclipse motor, so the turbo that the man suggested you is most likely a T25. If you find a TD04 or TD05 turbo at a junkyard, TELL ME WHERE THAT PLACE IS!!

$200 for a T25 is pretty much a rip off depending on the condition. I've seen them as low as $80 dollars before (maybe even lower).

Keep in mind that there are many different "families" for turbos and not all are the same despite the numbers they have in thier name. There are T04E turbo's, GT turbo's, TD turbo's, etc etc.

Most of the yards in the area sell turbos for $50/each. $200 is a Grab Your Ankles special!

Go to a place where you remove the turbo from the car. If you go to a place where it is already removed for you, you'll get the shaft on the price.

Look for turbos off of Volvos and Saabs. People that buy those kinds of cars generally don't race them and they take care of them. The turbos that I take off of those cars are usually in good shape. The ones that I've taken off of Eclipses and other high performance cars are usually blown to bits.

Ya can find TD05's (TD05H-14B) at yards... look for 1G eclipses ;-) manual only though. I believe the autos had TD04's or a smaller TD05 (i think it was 13g possibly?)

And yah $200 for a t-25 is a rip... i got mine for $85 in good condition.

I took an entire day and went to about 15-20 junkyards in the Portland/Vancouver area and didn't find a turbo for less than $200...there were only a few to be found, as well. I gave in and turned to DSM trader, which has lower prices than ebay, but still nothing less than $100.
